Wireless Card Suggestion: Kismet/wellenreiter?
« on: March 24, 2007, 11:37:01 pm »
Hi!
I bought SL-C760 on Amazon a while ago, it came with D-Link DCF-660W wireless card, but I always had a problems with that card, I searched the forums and it seems everybody has problems with that card. Now it doesn't work at all! Nothing even shows up in dmesg when I plug it in! I want to buy a new card, but I have no idea what card should I buy that would work with Kismet/Wellenreiter..

I'm not sure if there are cards for zaurus where you can plug external antena, that would be really, really great or any other card that has strong reception. even my USB 15$ Netgear card was able to discover more networks than DCF-600W.. any suggestions are really appreciated. Thank you!

The Ambicom I mention in my sig should work. Your SL C760 and my C860 have pretty much the same hardware under the skin. I'm sure they're still available on eBay, I have 2 of them.

Thanks a lot! I found it on amazon: [a href=\"http://www.amazon.com/AmbiCom-WL1100C-CF-Compactflash-11MBPS-Adapter/dp/B00008W9PW]http://www.amazon.com/AmbiCom-WL1100C-CF-C...r/dp/B00008W9PW[/url]
Did you  require any extra modules, or it works out of the box? how about wpa? do you need wpa_suplicent? Thanks!

I also have this card, and it is currently using Kismet just fine. The card it comes with says it has WPA, but I haven't tried it.

I recommend it, as it works out of the box (with pdaX), is relatively small (~2 cm sticks out), and seems to not drain the battery too much.

are you sure your CF slot isn't damaged, if the card doesn't even trigger an event in dmesg or /var/log/messages?

I presume you rebooted your Z to make sure cardmgr hasn't locked up? And tried a different card, even a CF memory card would do, but a different CF i/o card would be better (modem, ether, bluetooth).

It worked in CACkO 1.23 once I edited out all the other choices in the config files. WPA I don't use, although I probably should --- I just change my password frequently here at home in WEP.
