Purple LED above the camer was constantly on until...
« on: November 25, 2019, 08:19:06 pm »
For the first couple of days with the Cosmo Communicator, the purple LED above the camera was constantly on. The quick start guide says this LED light is a 'Wireless Indicator LED'. Additional details on when this LED comes on/off is not described in the guide.

The purple Wireless Indicator LED went off after I figured out how to get T-Mobile (US) Mobile Data working. Apparently, the inability of not having Mobile Data working was causing the purple Wireless Indicator LED to be on constantly. The Mobile Data option in the Android settings was greyed out and unresponsive when tapping on it.

So, what did I do to get my T-Mobile Mobile Data working? I consulted with a T-Mobile representative who directed me to the following BYOD T-Mobile data and APN Settings webpage.

After locating the Access Point Names setting in Android 9, the APN settings matched to what is on the T-Mobile webpage except APN Type and APN Protocol. After changing the APN Type to default, supl, mms and APN Protocol to IPv4/IPv6, I was able to turn on Mobile Data in the Android settings. It was then I noticed that the purple Wireless Indicator LED above the camera on the Cosmo was off.

Perhaps the Wireless Indicator LED warns the phone user/owner when cellular data is no longer available?

Note: It seems enabling/disablabling wifi has no effect on the Wireless Indicator LED.

Cheers!

I wonder if it's related to WiFi calling?

@drhood--THANK you. I could not find out what that light meant or how to get rid of it. Enabling and disabling data in settings finally removed the led (though I thought it was pink-colored).

From what I've seen, here's what I've been able to tell the LED indicates:

 - purple            = the Cosmo is on wifi
 - blue              = the wifi hotspot is on
 - flashing yellow   = missed call
 - green (on power)  = the Cosmo is fully charged
 - yellow (on power) = the Cosmo is charging

Anyone have anything else?

Thanks,

PJS

LOL...  Talking to myself...    As I've been testing things just now, I'm
finding the LED is somewhat inconsistent about when it turns purple.  I've
set my Cosmo back to wifi, it automatically switched to wifi-calling (on
T-Mo (US) too)...   still no lights at all outside.

As for T-Mo, I didn't have to do a thing to get my Cosmo working with T-Mo
beyond going in the T-Mo shop to trade my old SIM for one of the micro SIMs.

c'est la vie,

PJS

Huh.  Mine does none of this.  I have seen it on once (red) when I first started and had no SIM, and never since.

Have you updated your cover display firmware?   AFAIK, I'm up to date.

Thanks,

Sometimes the colors may be different from what the instructions say. I tried to connect the camera to the power supply in the same way, then the light disco started. The seller said that the diodes could have burned out or overheated, broken, etc. I can not even think that this happens with new hardware. I ended up replacing the original with amazon light bulbs, tested and installed the wiring sequence in reverse order. First I plugged in the mains and then plugged in the instrument itself. This was enough to think that the original product was made somewhere in Asia.
