Can\'t have both an IR & Bluetooth dial-up profile
« on: June 08, 2004, 05:54:21 pm »
Just got my Socket Bluetooth rev F card today.  I popped it in, then paired it to my SE Z600, and set up a dial-up connection.  However, even when I\'ve selected this bluetooth connection, when I go to connect it only lists my SE Z600 IR connection.

I then deleted the IR connection and then I could see the bluetooth connection when I hit the connect button.  Is there a reason I can only have one dial-up connection defined?

Also, I notice that when using bluetooth to connect to the internet, the network applet says it\'s connected when it\'s still dialing.  Is this the intended behavior or just a quirk of the software?

Thanks
Curt

They can be hardcoded to both use ppp0 or something. As long as they use different ppp network sockets they should work, but maybe that isn\'t possible by using Sharp wizards... You have to setup different routes, and remember that they both must have a default route, so one erases the other...

When pppd runs he brings a ppp socket up, and if ppp0 is already taken, it should start  a ppp1, I never used dial-up, just used to setup a ppp connection with my laptop before I had the travel sync cable (the ir ppp connection is pretty slow compared to it, and I can have the Z by my side, instead of behind the laptop, I know about the tin foil kung-foo I could\'ve done, though...  ), so I don\'t (and can\'t) try to repeat what you\'re doing to find out how you could do it.

Good luck!

I think Curt is talking about the two connections simply being listed when disconnected and is not talking about establishing two simultaneous PPP connections. It sounds like a quirk of the Cacko ROM to me since I have both a Bluetooth and IrDA connection setup and can see them both when I go to connect to something in the Network applet.

As for the Bluetooth connection saying it is connected prematurely, this is a bug in the applet. If you watch carefully it will revert to \'Connecting...\' followed by \'Connected\' again when it really has established the PPP connection.

I had the same problem of not being able to select my bluetooth connection. I ended up just having one IR connection, that, after editing the peers-file, it\'s actually a bluetooth connection.

I tried all sort of trick, but no way; the network connection didn\'t want to show my bluetooth connection setup with the bluetooth connection plugin.
