Headphone socket powered up even when Z is suspended?
« on: June 03, 2004, 11:54:24 am »
Has anyone else noticed that when you plug a pair of headphones into the Z (even when it is suspended), there is a faint crackling sound, suggesting that the headphone socket has a small current flowing thorugh it.
When I get home I will attach a multimeter to see what\'s going on.

Surely, this must drain the battery.

BTW, I am running OZ 3.2.

Yeah, I noticed it too.

It doesn\'t necessarily drain the battery, though, because no connection is made until you plug the headphones in.  I can\'t say how much energy is going through the headphone out, but you can always disconnect the headphones when not listening to the Zaurus to be safe

This happens on the C860 as well.
Gorgeous C860, 256 Sandisk SD, 1Gig Pretec 40x CF, PDAIR leather case & the really cool retractable iPDA USB sync/charge cable. Powered by PDAXROM BETA 1.

My wish - to have a Command & Conquer style game on my Z! (FREECNC!!!) Simcity 2000 would also be great.

Sure, there won\'t be any current drained at  the socket, but there must be an opamp of sorts running, and that will take a small standby current.

Plus, if you wish to follow this line of thought, when there is nothing in the headphones socket, then the output is directed to the internal speaker.
