So is the best (only?) way to get back to an original ROM config via a hard reset?

TIA,

Depends on what rom you currently have on the Machine - if its cacko or tkc rom then a hard reset won\'t help you at all - they changed the whole underlying filesystem. In that case you only option to get a full original C860 rom is to NAND restore. NOTE I don\'t recommend you do this till you have read all the info on the forum about NAND restoring. It can be dangerous and it has created a number of bricks - ususally be people not following instructions or flashing the wrong NAND to their device. The service menu has a lot of options that can cause some damage to your Z - use it carefully - if you use it at all. (Note I have succesfully NAND restores a number of times - but I read everything there was to read here, on devnet and on externe.net too)
