Help with ipkg
« on: January 03, 2004, 06:54:31 pm »
I downloaded the ipk for the latest ipkg.  I installed it using the stock software installer that came with tkrom.

After that I installed a app to my SD card from command line as instructed and created my links and such.

Now does this eliminate the use of the GUI software installer and force me to use CLI to install any future apps to my SD card?

If so does anyone have any scripts that can be used to somewhat easily install apps?

Thanks!

No you can use whichever installation method that you prefer.

I always use the gui first and if that fails or if it is for an opie program or anything that I suspect may not work with the sharp stock package installer I use ipkg.  It is also useful for telling you what dependancies to use.

I don\'t really understand the need for this question why didn\'t you just try the sharp installer again and see if it worked or am I missing something?

Depending on whether you\'ve altered the symlinks (or removed the old ipkg) you may or may not be able to use the newer one through the GUI installer. I presume that\'s what you were asking.

You ought to be able to replace the old one with the new one and then be able to install ar packages through the GUI.
