trouble with Sl-5600 kernels (wireless use)
« on: July 07, 2004, 06:24:58 pm »
hello
a friend and i needed to enable iptables and netfilter for a project we're working on, and it did not appear to be supported with our ROM version 1.00.  so we downloaded the kernel source from sharp's website and recompiled it, with additional features enabled in menuconfig.   after we flashed this kernel, we started having issues with our wireless connection (we have a Netgear MA701 CF card).  we are able to connect and surf initially, but after a few minutes we get a low signal level message, and then the zaurus does erattic things like lock up or fail to recognize the CF card.  we then tried to recompile and load the kernel again with the standard poodle config....same porblem.  then we tried using the zImage file from the 560v132c.zip ROM...same problem.  then we tried the special kernel v1.3...same problem.   we had not had any problems with either of our wireless cards or Z's prior to updating the kernel.  does anyone know why we are having difficulties with the wireless cards now?  are there features that we need to enable in menuconfig that are not part of the standard poodle config?  i'm not sure if these are related, but it seems that many times the issues with the wireless connection begin when we use the terminal, and problems typically cease if we remove the wireless card.  if anyone has any information or suggestions, we would greatly appreciate it.

thanks

dz

I had the same exact problem using an AmbiCom card and a Linksys card with my 5600.  When I could actually get it to connect to the network, I'd be able to use the internet for a minute or so before it just froze up.

I could never figure out what it was.  I tried it with tkcRom, OZ, Zynergy and the standard Sharp Rom.  Everything did the same thing.

Good luck fixing it, as I could never figure it out.  If you can find a fix though, let us know here as there are several Zaurus users with this problem.
