QTOPIA desktop - where to get
« on: December 11, 2003, 10:56:29 am »
I was looking at the Qtopia desktop which I guess is one desktop app that I could sync my 860 with.  On the Zaurus Software Index it states that I should use the one supplied by Sharp.  Of course eveything on the Sharp Supplied CD is in Japaneese so that doesn\'t help.  Is there a version of this program available for download somewhere?

Buried deep within the HOWTO\'s is the answer, step 8 at the bottom is your cup of tea:

Unfortunately this only \"almost\" worked.  When I run the Sync from the Qtopia program, my Zaurus starts up the communication program, but then an error shows up on my pc \"The version of qtopia desktop does not match the version on your Zaurus\"

Is there a later version available anywhere?

You could always try a different rom.  I think the latest OZ works with your device, (might be wrong though)  Also, you may be able to manualy install qtopia 1.6.2 if you are a serious uber user.

I tried the trolltech qtopia v1.7 and it installed something that make the file transfer work, but the sync doesn\'t.  Its funny because when I press the sync button in pclink on the zaurus, there is activity and the zaurus finishes without error, but nothing has been updated.  The sync buttons on qtopia are greyed out though.

As for using OZ, I\'ve already tried that route but I just couldn\'t get any software to install correctly on it.  I hacked around for a few days and gave up.  Unfortunately I actually need to use my zaurus as well as having something fun to hack around on, so I am desperate to get things working.

My main thing is to get the sync working and also to be able to access the web using the USB cable.  (Oreo - I saw one thread where you questioned why anyone would want to do this - I guess I\'m another one :-) ).

Tonight, I think I\'ll un-install everything from my PC - I\'ve got 2 versions of qtopia - and try a clean install.  I may also try intellisync. I guess I could install outlook just to have something to sync to. Any help in this would be great.
