Er its (the IRDA\'s) not working for me now !! Maybe its because I have been \'bluetoothing\' and have had to reset the machine once or twice because of a locked up cf card.

Problem using Irda Modem connection via SonyEricsson T68i

Hi Group,

I\'ve tried with two kernel - compiled with the patch from maslovsky and with the Cacko Kernel. The kernel update passed OK (by the way don\'t try to flash with PQI CF cards, because it didn\'t work with 64MB and 128MB ones). Now I have max_tx_window in my /proc/sys/net/irda but the problem is that I cannot set it

========================
#su
#echo 1]/proc/sys/net/irda/max_tx_window
#echo 1000 ]/proc/net/irda/min_tx_turn_time
#cat /proc/net/irda/min_tx_turn_time
1000
#cat /proc/sys/net/irda/max_tx_window
7
#
========================

Does anyone has any ideas ?

Oh, I find it  It was mine fault - I missed the \"space\" between \"echo 1\" and the \"]\" sign. must be (echo 1 ]...)   Everything works now. Thanks for the help

Does anyone have the patched kernel available?  I (currently) do not have access to a linux computer to do the compiling myself...

thanks in advance

You can use this one: http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php...download&sid=38
There is build in patch. Read the How-to section for more information how to flash the kernel.

Hi all,

Sorry to put it this way, but I\'d say I almost got overwhelmed by the many complicated questions and proposals in the posts.  Just before losing my hope to connect my new born C860 with t68i, I resort to the simplest setting and it works like a miracle.

I am a Hong Kong user and subscribing to Sunday\'s unlimited GPRS plan for just HKD$38 (around US$5) a month.  I took the steps as follows:

1) In Network, add a new connection (just bypass the Wizard) with Dial-up - PPP (IrDA-PPP);
2) Under Account, give a random name (e.g. Sunday), put down the Username and Password if necessary (I don\'t need them anyway)
3) Uncheck \"Use Device Authentication\"
4) Phone no: *99# (my CID is 1 but I used to do without it when I was using Palm; you may wish to write *99***CID#, where \"CID\" is a number given by the Phone provider)
5) Switch to the Modem tab, I put down the initial command as ATZ.
Skip the Network and Proxy tabs.

Here comes the mystery/miracle:
I found that it is impossible to connect either inside Network or outside in lower right corner of Desktop (using the \"globe\" icon).  Nevertheless, when I fire up Netfront , ask it to access a page, and say yes to connect in the popup dialogue window (it seems I gotta highlight/tap on my IrDA account before say yes) , connection is done in just about 5 seconds!  What\'s more the connection speed far exceeds that when using my NX73 European and HP2210 (both w/ built-in BT).

Just wonder if using BT with AIRcable will achieve an even better result.

Oh thanks!  I didn\'t realize Cacko has that patch already in it (I haven\'t been paying attention much lately), and have considered using it instead \'cause of the 64/0 layout.  I already have my /home on my SD card, and make a 20mb swapfile, so this would be the logical next step.  Thanks for pointing that out!

I succeeded in connecting my 5600 to an Ericsson T39m via IR by following ZDevil\'s method of connecting thru the browser (Opera), and I am using Sharp ROM 1.32 without maslovsky\'s irda tx kernel patch. However, I found that I had to abort and repeatedly retry the connection to get the phone to dial out / connect to GPRS. Once it did start to connect to my phone service provider, the IR connection between the Z and phone remained stable. So for those Ericsson users who are unable to recompile their kernel to include maslovsky\'s fix, this method will hopefully be of help.

BTW, I had to set the communication baud rate to 19200 in the Network applet. I could not get 115200 to work.

I am a little confused on this issue of using a cell phone for internet access.
I want to dial a normal dialup isp (i get a free dialup account with my dsl) I do not want to use the data service provided by my cell phone provider.

I would like to get an aircable to connect via bluetooth to my sony ericsson T616 to dial out.

is that possible or am i just way off the mark?

echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/irda/max_tx_window
echo 1000 > /proc/sys/net/irda/min_tx_turn_time
Quote
Code: [Select]
echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/irda/max_tx_window
echo 1000 > /proc/sys/net/irda/min_tx_turn_time

Ah that's the magic incantation that is missing.  With that I can now talk to my SonyEricsson T610 and use GPRS.

Thanks

Excellant! Now, my Z connects via GPRS thru Irda. Thank you all who posted the useful information.

Ok, here is the bad news. I did the kernel update as per the instructions here. GPRS connection works. But I cannot restore the backup. Is the (3.13 rom) backup file not compatible with new ROM patch? I started Backup/Restore applet, when I select 'Restore' option, selecting CF or SD do not list the available backup files. I have backup files in both the cards. I don't want to start all over again. Please advise some easiest way to get back everything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I found out the problem.

After updating kernel patch, for some reason Backup/Restore writes the backup file with the extn ".backup_SL5500-US-unknown", it used to be ".backup_SL5500-US-3" before updating the patch. Sameway, when I try to restore, it looks for files with the new extension. It seems the zaurus cannot get the version number anymore.

Anyway, I changed extension of my previous backup and restored everything. I'm back to normal with kernel patch.

Thought of posting it as it might be useful if someone has similar problem.

I'm glad you found the problem by yourself. However if you'd searched just a bit more carefully you'd find the solution in a thread pinned on top of the "Sharp ROM" section

Thanks for the wonderful work Maslovsky. I just finished reading that long thread you mentioned. I found this little late. I haven't visited ZUG for a quite while, so I missed lot of good stuff. Catching them up now...

When we are on this thread can I ask you one question?
(Sorry, if this was answered previously)

After this patch everything goes fine except my wireless connection. I cannot connect to my wireless router. I have a Netgear MA701 card. Can you give some pointers please?

(I'm searching the forum now, it returns enormous results, I'm going thourgh one by one, still no luck to find a solution for this)

I'm sorry, it was my router. Zaurus connects to my neighbour's router. Something was messed up in the router, I haven't played with it for a while, now the time has come.
