cramfs /usr on Cacko Question

I was sure in the past I could just "mount -o remout,rw /" and then make changes as needed to /usr/QtPalmtop.rom/...

Am I crazy, or was that possible?

Now I cannot.

Was I doing this on the original Sharp ROM or an OLD Cacko ROMs and now I cannot anymore?

My guess is that the use of cramfs is new (not original to Sharp's ROM) and it "snuck in" on me.

If it has changed, is there any way, with Cacko ROM 1.21 to make changes to files in /usr/QtPalmtop.rom/... with the ROM in place on the machine?

It's possible on the standard ROM, tkc and pre-1.2 cacko roms.

Cacko 1.2+ roms use a cramfs /usr. You can make changes but tey will be lost on boot. You could uncram the cramfs make the changes and repack it, but i've never tried it. You wolud of course need somewhere to unpack the cramfs and hold the new version whikle repacking

I can't make any changes. Even temporary. It just tells me the filesystem is readonly.

Nope, from memory the /usr cramfs is located in /boot, to replace it you would just need to remount / rw and replace the cramfs file, then reboot.

You may need to umount /usr first before replacing the cramfs - sorry never tried it.
