GPE apps for the new OpenZaurus
« on: September 26, 2004, 04:32:56 am »
Hello!
I've just installed the new OpenZaurus 3.5.1 with GPE and it looks great!
Is there a web site where I can download some apps for it? I've tried some pdaXrom apps, but I can't install them.

Hi,
first they are in the feed:
http://www.openzaurus.org/official/unstable/3.5.1/feed/
Note this feed includes both Opie/qte apps and Gpe/X apps. To find out which apps are for GPE you could try the descriptions in the packagemanager. Some of descriptions are maybe not Complete, so another nice thing to do is to have a look at pdaXrom feed and compare that with the OZ feed. In this case you could also post some wishes for Packages that are in pdaXrom but not in OZ, maybe developers become inspired and port that to openembedded too.

Another place to download the apps is
http://www.ecs.soton.ac.uk/~cil103/pub/feed/
I never had a look at this feed, but since Cwiiis is working on Gpe I assume this feed should just include Gpe Apps.
Cheers,
Sam

Grab the apps tarball and extract it somewhere - this will be your feed.

Thanks for the links!
Most of the apps work, but not all.
Firefox doesn't work. It loads for a few minutes and then does nothing. It doesn't show any errors. Have you tried running it?
I have Zaurus SL-5500.

Well, I dont have gpe running at moment, but maybe you try out minimo and give feedback how it works.
It is in the feed and should be simply good for Gpe on 5500.

I've tried Minimo and it's really weird. The first time it was loading for a few minutes and then displayed an empty window with something that looks like an address bar on top. I've tried to open file:/ but nothing happened. My Zaurus isn't connected to the internet (I need a web browser for browsing offline), but I tried to open www.onet.pl. Again nothing happened. I closed Minimo and opened it once again. This time it launched instantly, but it still didn't work. Am I doing something wrong?

I've tried Dillo. It works perfectly. It's a nice little browser and I like it. However, Firefox is my favourite browser and it would be really great to see it running on my Zaurus.

Just one more question. Is there an mp3 player for GPE?

Yes it does, it's called nmf. It's in the feed, but I don't know if it works.

Minimo works fine for me.  Starting to type file expands to the file:// url.
An example would be
file:///mnt/cf/myfile.txt

This worked fine as did going to the internet.

I like it better than Opera so far. Does anyone know how to make the fonts in the browser smaller?
My main problem in GPE at the moment is that my two main applications-
the terminal and the web browser -have fonts that are much larger than I need.
