Feeds designed for SL-C7xx and 8xx series
« on: October 13, 2004, 08:21:13 am »
Howdy,

Trundling through various feeds, I notice a lot of applications seem to be compiled for older Zauruses.

As a result, things either fail terribly when I install them onto my SL-C860 with Cacko, or if things do install, they either won't load, or drop down the screen to a much lower resolution and often don't work quite right.

Any feeds out there designed for us 480x640 users?

Thanks

You can try my feed:

http://www.bryandeluca.com/feed

It has all the packages that I use on my c860 with Cacko.   Oh, and if you tap and hold on icons you can uncheck the "Display with magnified screen" option.

Hope this helps.

I must be doing something wrong, because I'm having the same problem with a bunch of packages from there.

Lots of low-res apps, which in games isn't a huge problem, but for normal applications it's a pain using it in the lower resolution.  I'm also finding when applications step down to the lower res, screen corruption occurs and the fonts in the Qtopia "Start" menu, for example, go all strange and to fix the problem I have to restart the computer.

Doom, for example, won't load at all, either :-(

& I'm noticing lots of games show on the screen upside down, anyway to fix that?  I read something about compiling a custom version of SDL with 180 degree rotation, but I would have assumed that the SDL in this feed would have already had that?

Just found an URL that might explain why the games always seem to jump down to lower resolutions:

http://www.mithis.com/zaurus/reward1.html

D'oh, seems libSDL doesn't support the full resolution.  Still, it would be nice if somebody maintained a feed where all applications worked on the SL-C series.

Stupkid:  I've been trying your feed, lots of things don't work on mine with latest Cacko; for example, ScummVM and Doom (the two games I probably want the most, heh).  Thanks in any case.

You are using the zports libSDL and doom from my feed and it is running upside down?  That is strange because they work on my Z.  If you don't use the libs that I have my feed I have no idea what might happen.  Have you done any trouble-shooting to determine why it is happening?

I'm installing packages from that feed now and a lot of things either won't install (ipkg fails), or they don't run.  Doom doesn't run upside down; it doesn't run at all.

I had doom running upside down when I installed it from zaurususergroup.com/feed

I've tried reinstalling everything from scratch several times (i.e. reload the rom), only using your sources, and still having the same issues.

Not sure what's happening.  Doom/ScummVM work OK for you?

(I just noticed the URL I pasted above is over a year old.  Does libSDL support 640x480?  It would suck to run all SDL apps at the lower resolution).

Try copying the attached config file to ~/.prboom/.  I also have a config file for ScummVM I'll attach.  Let me know if that helps.

Thanks!

Here is the configuration I use for ScummVM.  Copy scummvmrc to ~/scummvm/.    You will need to edit the paths for you setup, but this is my working configuration.  Look at 'savepath=' at the top of the config and the 'path=' options for each game.

Let me know how it works for you.

Oh, and all the libSDL games run at 320x240.  The Z just doesn't have the hardware for the higher resolutions.  Well, almost all the games will not run with any kind of speed in 640x480.  Stratagus runs at 640x480, but doom for example will only run well at 320x240.

Once the new Cacko ROM comes out I'll reflash my Z and do some testing of my feed with a vanilla config.  I've been using these packages for some time and have forgotten about most of the initial hacks to get them working.
