Accessing Zaurus from Linux PC
« on: December 20, 2003, 07:36:47 pm »
I\'m leaning towards purchasing an SL-5600 and WCF12 card and in light of all I have read here and elswhere about syncing problems  have been playing around with ssh between my 2 home systems and thought this may be useful for manipulating files on the Zaurus.  Is there a program that I can run from my Linux based PC\'s that will allow me to update PIM files on the Zaurus ?, not synchronize, but add/ modify data. If I am asking a silly question, please forgive me, I have no access to a Zaurus nor have I every seen one. I would just like to have \" all my ducks in a row \" before I take the plunge. Thanks for your time. {rh}

ssh and sftp access is absolutely smooth once you have the networking set up properly. That is your first hurdle (i.e. getting usbnet or usbdnet to run on your desktop box). See the HowTos for clues.

Once the machines connect, Qtopia Desktop is not that hard to get going. I have it installed but I don\'t sync with it. The reason is my usage pattern: I do all the PIM stuff strictly on the Z and so the \"syncing\" is in fact backup. Plain sftp in a shell script is all I need (with an icon on my KDE desktop to run the script :wink: ).

u can consider the option of running vncserver on z (fbvncserver) and use a vnc viewer to access the z\'s ui. not sure if this is wat you are looking for.
