« on: March 02, 2004, 07:03:34 am »
I have recently accuired a sharp zaurus sl 5600. I am looking for information as to how to pass files from my pda to my laptop(which runs XP), this is part of a school project. I was wondering how would be the best way to do this wirelessly, and what would I nedd to buy/do??!! Any help or suggestions you could give me would be greatly appricated. I have very little experience in this whole \"wireless\" area so your help would be invaluable!

The easiest way would be to use the cradle which came with it, install the drivers and then either map it as a samba share or use the file transfer program which comes with the Sharp software.

Wireless is also possible but requires some changes to be made to config files. There are some threads about this - search for something like \"samba AND wireless\". You\'ll need a WiFi CF card and some kind of WiFi card in your laptop (or a \'centrino TM\' processor ;-))

Hey,
I am using the Z as part of a project, the project is about sending text messages from my laptop which is connected to my mobile a nokia 6310i, I have that part of the project done, if I create a text file on my laptop and save it to a certain directory it gets sent as a text message. The area I want to focus on now is being able to use the Z to create a text file, then wirelessly transfere this file to the directory for out going text messages on my laptop.
Any suggestions on how to do this???

What\'s your laptop running? Linux? If so you could run the program on your Z.

If you still want to use the laptop then you can take your pick of: samba, ftp (you\'ll need to have a server running on your laptop), sftp (again you\'ll need an ssh server running on your laptop).

For the minimum of setup samba is probably the easiest.

My laptop runs XP and the Java program which send the Text message also interacts with MS ACCESS so I think ill go with  samba ftp and run a server on the laptop.

Cheers for your help lardman
