Alternativ Connecting Harddrive To Z
« on: December 08, 2004, 04:56:13 am »
Hi to all Z users,

My problem is connecting a massstorage (like harddrive, usbstick,  camera) to my Z (c860) ... thinking to by a USB host CF adapter ... seen this 2 USB host cf adapters ( 1 is not available anymore, sold out ) ...

  http://www.ratocsystems.com/english/produc...ages/cfu1u.html

I searched again in the web and found this, but it will be available in Q3/2004 but drivers only for Windows :-( Linux not before Q2/2005 ...

Some days ago I read about a WLAN harddrive from ASUS in an article of a magazine (pc professional) :-) ...

  http://www.vnunet.de/testticker/Mobile/art...6025&Ref=pc-pro

going to the ASUS homepage reading more details about it ...

  http://www.asuscom.de/products/communicati...5/overview.htm#

short thinking about it and thats th clue for most of my problems ... directly ordering it at www.alternate.de ... maybe it will arrive today / tomorrow ... I will report after some testing ...

The best is - if I understood it right - that firmware is upgradeable and sourcecode is available :-)))

Best wishes until next days
Martin

p.s.: pictures taken from pc magazine and asus ... Thanks.

seems like a good solution ... except maybe for security concerns
SL-C3000 - pdaXrom 1.1.0Beta1
SL-C860 - pdaXrom 1.1.0 RC8 (charging circuitry dead :( )
CF RamStar 512 Mb / Hitachi 4Gb microdrive (thanks to creative's muvo² :p)
SD Sandisk 1Gb / Viking 256 Mb
Linksys WCF13 CF wifi card

Anyone willing to donate for my work, please consider donate to pdaXrom and/or OE/OZ projects instead, I wouldn't have been able to do anything without them ...

Hi @ThC,

Yes there maybe any security problems, but what do you think which data to store ... it on yourselves turn to store only unproblematic data (like mp3, videos, pictures, ...)

... it is possible to use ethernet cable connection to Z if you have a netware cf card too ...

... wlan is used with WEB 128 and WPA SKA encryption and security ... thinking this will be enough for privat data ...

I think the device is only availble if in use and switched off after it :-)

I will (mostly) only use it in my holidays for storing pictures af my digicam and taking some mp3 with me ...

Any other comments?

Good luck
Martin
