Ka/pi Or Some Other Address Program
« on: January 13, 2005, 07:28:08 pm »
First of all, I installed ka/pi from some feed when I first installed pdaxrom, but now I cannot find a feed with this in it. Can someone help?

Also, I never really got to use ka/pi for very long because it stopped working for some unknown reason so I don't know if I'll like it or not. But are there other address book programs out there that I could try if I don't get ka/pi to work? Please post recommendations.

thanks.

there's something unclear...

1) Ka/pi is preinstalled in the pdaxrom distribution, so no need to reinstall it
2) Ka/pi is present in the regular pdaxrom feed

so:
what version of pdaxrom are you using? Consider switching to the lasr release candidate, 1.1.0 RC8. That's definitely times and times better and more usable of any prior version.

after installing RC8, you won't have those problems anyumore with addressbooks

The KA/Pi and KO/Pi in RC8 is an old version. It lacks some useful functionality such as PiSync. Any reason not to upgrade it?

I am running RC8. I cannot see ka/pi in any feed or in my "installed packages"; however, it is installed.

Here is the error I get when I try to run kapi:
Code: [Select]
kapi: relocation error: /usr/lib/qt/lib/libmicrokabc.so.1: undefined symbol: _ZNK4KRES8Resource9classNameEv
I've had simliar problems before and the solution was to do LD_PRELOAD=/lib/libgcc_s.so vim before running the program-- this method did not work for me.

Any suggestions?

thanks.

I was able to compile the applications of the kdepim package 1.9.16. There where only some minor tweaks necessary to make them run.
kapi works ok
kopi works ok
Additional applications in this package are: pwmpi (Passwordmanager), working, ompi (email client) working (partly), kammu (? / untested)
The "problem" with this package is, that it is somehow closely related to qtopia. So there are some additional tweaks necessary to adjust e.g. to the screen size...
Also I was not able to get the alarm functionallity (wakeup from suspend) working, because it also uses qtopia. I think there are some more changes necessary to get this working.

KDE-Pim/Pi can be compiled for the Zaurus, for Linux desktop and for Windows.
That means:
There are no tweak necessary to adjust to the screen size.
When compiled for the desktop with qmake;make ( and this should be used for pdaXrom ) it is not at all related to qtopia.
In general there should be no tweaks necessary for compiling for pdaXrom .

kammu is a command line app for syncing mobile phones via IR.
It is called from KO/Pi - KA/Pi.

The alarm applet itself is using the qtopia alarm daemon, such that it is not available on pdaXrom.

...ehm...

if you want an ipk with the whole system, you should think of a reflashing - no way to use ipkg to install the distro in which ipkg is included

if you want a feed to upgrade ALL packages in your old pdaxrom installation, you're looking for [a href=\"http://mirror1.pdaxrom.org/current/]http://mirror1.pdaxrom.org/current/[/url] ...BUT it's a bad idea trying to upgrade pdaxrom without reflashing, in my opinion. Maybe I'm wrong, almost sure not to be, but you CANNOT port an old installation to the last release by simple package upgrading.

So, you should reflash pdaxrom, after a good backup of your data.
Really worths

Hi :-)

... I'm waiting too for update of ko/pi and ka/pi ... because I want to use desktop sync with Kaddress/Korganizer ... on my SuSE 9.2 / KDE 3.3.x ...

This will fix my problems - doing stupid work - to reimport all data to contact / calender everytime I changed data on my desktop :-(

Hope someone will do it soon *veryhappythen*

THANKS

Hello,

I'm running pdaXrom RC9 and a debian chroot
I've compiled kopi and kapi 2.0.0 in the debian system
All seems to run nice.
Just changed the config files for icons and the menu to choose "Crd kopi" and "Crd kapi", so now i can launch 2.0.0 instead of the version delivered in the rom (1.9.4).
Will do a bit of testing this evening.

Cheers,
Chero.
