Alternative Mp3 Player For Pdaxrom
« on: January 29, 2005, 04:39:10 pm »
Is anyone using anything other than XMMS as mp3 player on the Zaurus w/pdaxrom?

XMMS is great, however it's not very optimisted for on-the-go type of play.  Trying to find the right button while driving isn't easy!

I'd be open to compiling a player from source and packaging it if someone has a suggestion on a lite mp3 player than utilizes the full screen of the zaurus.

hi rdwtux,

... I think xmms is great ... yes I recommend to you about this problem with default skin, but we have to find a better (maybe fullscreen) skin with greater button ...

... double size default skin is one great solution ... anybody a solution for doublesizing the playlist? ... maybe zoom of pdaxrom will help too Fn + 2 (zoom+)

... I'm browsing throught the skins at the moment .... looking for one ...

more soon

Actually, I really dislike xmms on my Z (C680). Especially the playlist being detached from the main player (and particularly, keyboard-wise) makes it difficult to control. Since they're 2 different windows, they both respond differently to the same keys. I have not yet found a key to browse through the xmms windows, but this is what I mean: if you press up/down, in the main window it activates volume control, in the playlist it scrolls through the songs... but to focus the other window, it needs clicks, and in combination with the tiny buttons.. well... you know. So a better player would have player and playlist integrated in one window, in my opinion. I've never really felt these problems on my desktop system, but on the Zaurus they are starting to get annoying

The player included in the feed for the cacko rom is great.  I think it's just called Sharp Music Player in the feed.

When I'm at the gym, taking out my 860 and fooling with the keyboard or trying to debug "Cannot access audio" msgs isn't really aren't what I want

So I guess the search continues...
