Shirtpocket Troubles?
« on: March 01, 2005, 05:45:10 am »
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has had any good/bad experiences with ShirtPocket.co.uk over the last few months?

I know that their website states that they are in the process of moving etc, and that might be the cause of some problems for them, but still I found a couple of worrying posts on the internet:

http://www.totalpda.co.uk/forum/showthread...p=7889#post7889

See the last couple of posts in this one:
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/comp.s...75855425053363/

http://groups-beta.google.com/group/micros...90bea10f02051d/

I also noticed that the account they use on this board (Zuber) also doesn't seem to have been active since mid-January, and hasn't posted anything since last December...

So anyone had any recent contact with them?

Thanks,
Matt

Plenty of people have bought from Shirtpocket without any problem (myself included). You are always going to find someone who has had a problem and of course they'll be the loudest because they're not happy.

I was in fairly regular contact with zuber up until the end of December. I was wondering where he had gone. I am guessing it is taking longer than expected to sort out the new office and internet connection etc etc.

I've also read several good reports about shirtpocket on this, and other, forums, so hopefully you're right and it's just a temporary blip whilst they are changing premises etc...

Unfortunately, I bought a WIFI card from them 2 weeks ago and it still hasn't arrived. No response to emails or phone calls.

Hope they get up and running again, but I fear the worst.

I don't know what to think really. There is some activity on their website, I notice that they changed the date that they expected to have everything back to normal from 25th Feb to 28th Feb at the weekend, and then their site seemed to be mostly down for yesterday. So someone seems to be around doing something at least...

But it is a bit worrying that some of those posts I linked to say that they weren't able to get in contact with them for 6 weeks and that they were having to resort to going to their credit card vendors to claim their money back etc...

Not in the last few months, but I'd say their after sales service is fairly poor.

I asked them about upgrading to the Japanese 1.40 Rom for an 860, as I was having SD card problems, and it sounded on Sharp's site as if this might help.

As far as I can figure out by myself, ShortPocket seem to make a couple of changes to the stock ROM to the address book (to sort properly?) and to the input methods. Maybe 10 files are involved.

I asked if they could either tell me what the changes were, so I could back-apply them myself, or if they were a "secret", then if they could supply an update on CD.

I thought this would be trivial, as they would be converting incoming 860s with the 1.40 ROM for new customers.

(1)
It took many months to get any reply, and then
(2)
they offered me what I wanted for £25 (My memory is a little hazy, but I think they offered me an update on CD).

That seemed pretty steep for some work they had already done, when all they had to do was post it out.

I too have found them unresponsive.  I placed an order December 31 2004.  It took longer than expected to get the money into my moneybookers account so I tried to call ShirtPocket and I also sent several e-mails (January 7, 17, 31 and February 7 and 14) asking if I could change the payment method by I never received any reply.  So whatever problem there is, it's not due to poor post-sales service.

My order was eventually listed as cancelled, but I never asked for that nor did I receive any information via e-mail when it was done.

When I had a C860,  I got it from them, I was told on the phone they had a few in stock if I wanted to place an order immediately I'd get one. I did and then found out I would have to wait, it took the best part of a month if I recall, it felt like that anyway. Then when I did get it, their after-sales support was lousy. In fact the only support I got was on ZUG via Zuber.

I'd say if you're in the UK, i.e. within the EU, find another supplier that is also in the EU.

If they are not delivering what you want, don't deal with them. Companies usually pay attention when customers start going elsewhere.

I've imported and converted Zaurus for quite a few people on here as well as other places.

If anyone wants one, drop me a PM and I can sort out some pricing.

Can provide plenty of references and good feedback on places like eBay.

I'm in the UK, but would consider sending to EU countries.

Cheers

Well I didn't get my Zaurus from ShirtPocket but I have bought a number of accessories from them, including a WiFi card, and I've always found them to be very responsive.

If they have what I want at a reasonable price I usually choose ShirtPocket over other suppliers.  They haven't let me down yet.

Well, there seems to be lots of consensus that they have been good in the past, but my experience (and that of others since the start of this year) seems to be somewhat different....

I know that they are in a transition of moving location etc, but this seems to have caused lots of problems and no one seems to have been able to contact them for several months.

I would suggest that if anyone is planning on buying something from them that they first make sure that they can get in contact with them before placing their order.

I hope they get themselves back in order soon and repair their reputation.

I too have been waiting for a couple of weeks for shirt pocket to send my C3000, checking their site every day.
Today 8/3/05 I noticed a change in their site:

"IMPORTANT INFO (Updated): The server move is now complete. Site should now be fully operational again. Office move is mostly complete and new lines should be in place in the next few days. Sorry for the inconveniance caused dureing the move." -shirtpocket.co.uk

so hopefully now they will be back on their feet.

I have also been waiting for a couple of thinks from Shirtpocket. I ordered a wifi card, 256MB CF card and a USB adaptor. I have been waiting almost 2 months now.

I was been a bit patent as they were moving site but since its been back up i have sent a couple of Emails and had no reply, and have called a number of times with no answer. It is getting quite frustrating now. I paid for the products when i placed the order and now i can't even get in contact with them.

Dont really now what else to do except wait.

If you've been waiting for that long,  and you've paid by credit card, it's time to call your credit card company and file a complaint.  They'll investigate, and if they don't get a satisfactory resolution for the non-shipment, you'll get your money back.

But there are limits to how long after you paid that you can file a complaint, so you'll better get on the phone quick!

I placed an order in February for an Origo Senao WiFi card and the money was taken from my account. To date I have still not received my card. All attempts to contact them via email and phone have led to nothing. I have now complained to my bank who are now issuing me with a refund. My advice would currently be to not to trade with shirtpocket!!!!
