Help Installing Programs
« on: March 18, 2005, 07:01:20 pm »
Sorry if this question is very basic but I am new to Linux and Z  .

How do you install applications (say treeexplorer and kismet) on the Zaurus 760 with PdaXrom?

I am using the package manager to install the ipk files but I cannot find how to create an icon on the desktop.

Also how do I know which version of PdaXrom I am running?

Thanks in advance

hmm treeexplorer sounds like something for sharp rom no.

Any Gui application for sharp qtopia/OZ opie doesn't work in pdaxrom, other command line applications might work.

See The pinned thread about feeds for more info on where to find  packages for pdaxrom.

If you download kismet from something else than the pdaxrom feed it's normal not to have icons.  And as if IIRC kismet is a console application so there's maybe no icon.

Generally you need to exit and type startx again for the icons to appear.

After you boot there is a version info like 1.05 or 1.10 don't know how to see the RC number though. (You get your zaurus with pdaxrom installed?)

Thanks for your answer, yes my Z came with PdaXrom.

How do I know what program runs on PdaXrom, I found the feed on PdaXRom.org but some programs running on my Z today are not in the feed for instance KA/Pi.

In the other hand, when I go on the pi-sync.net it is not obvious to me that it is running on the PdaXrom.
