Qtopia Phone

So here is a glimpse of one Qtopia phone (out of the 20's or so that Trolltech mentioned will be out this year)

Wonder if it will be available for the US markets any time soon ?

Nice. A bit chunky though.

Quite large. No bluetooth or wifi. No option to add either one since there's no compact flash. A small qvga screen. 64 Mb flash/ram.

So I think I'll pass unless it cost around Eur 300. It may not even work on european GSM networks :-(((

It needs at least bluetooth/wifi if there's no cf.

True the phone is a bit bulky (from looks) and I would rather have a simpler smaller phone (with Qtopia).

So heres the question to lpotter (Trolltech) - is this (and is any other) phone scheduled for a US release on the GSM network any time soon ?

I have been thinking of updating my current phone, so maybe a sneek peek might help me in making up my mind.

none for  US release soon. US is the last place that adopts new technologies, usually. Look at china for the first Qtopia phones.

So there is another Linux based phone based on Qtopia phone edition in  - where else but Asia, China.

Looks much nicer than the Samsung one - with swivel screen and with Opera.

When will USA get the phones that Asia already has - like Motorola Linux phones and Qtopia phones ?

If you'd ever tried a Linux phone and compared it to a Treo, you'd understand why they won't bother bringing them West. Zautrix just bought a Linux Moto phone running Qtopia, and it's a true GUI disaster.

1.)
Motorola is not running Qtopia (phone) on their phones.
They haved developed their own phone environment based on Qt/embedded.

2.)
I like that Motorola phone environment GUI very much and I consider it as an almost perfect phone GUI for myself.
I.e. I would buy in every case a phone with such a GUI again.
