I'm very interested to get a 6000W before it becomes dinasour and extinguishes from the market. The current price from conics and streamlinecpus are too high for me > 850 shipped. I'm thinking about asking my relative in Tokyo a favor to get one for me.
The price in japan is Yen 79,421
http://www.kakaku.com/prdsearch/detail.asp...Key=00303010217. As dollar is going strong against Yen recently
http://finance.yahoo.com/currency/convert?...Y&amt=1000&t=2y, this price should correspond to $680-$700 which is enticing to me.
I do have some concerns before I buy the 6000W:
* As more and more users are moving away from 6K, how strong the 6K development will stand? Eventually, I'll set-up a dev enviroment myself, but my linux skill is not there yet.
* How soon will be sharp's next Zaurii? Will it over-shadow 6000W? If not, how soon do you expect there will be any product in the market that will put 6000W into misery in most/every category? One year, two years..., or nerver? Would 6000W become a legend that so many people desire it but only few people really touchs it.
* I've never used a clamshell. Do you guys think it's better for me to try a different flavor? Btw, I'm not particularly interested in 3100, If I skip this 6000W acquisition, I probably will go for the next clamshell model. Suppose you're given either a 3100 (or maybe the next incremental upgrade model on that) or a 6000W, which one would you choose? I'd like to listen to your opinions.
* If i get the 6000W, I should have a nice combo: 6000W (stable) and 6000L (testing). I will probably keep the JP stock rom (fast kernel, maybe) initially and only replace it with well tested developments. So would all the 6000L development be easily translated to the
JP rom 6000W?
btw, if anybody's also interested, I could ask my relative to go the extra leg of asking the group discount and if he's willing for the trouble. Btw, I'm afraid this won't happen soon. I don't know how to work out the logistics yet.
