fbvnc requires some libs, that are missing in rom -- but they can be found in Qtopia libs.
What about video4linux support? It would be very nice to have -- i have GeniusV4 web camera (supported by spca50x module) and spcaview that outputs video stream to screen (SDL) and/or file
I found, that apm binary is missing  (but one from SharpROM works).
Would it be a QT- or X11-based ROM?

From the roadmap it looks like guylhem is tending toward an qt based rom.  This makes sense, as the rom he is designeing will alllow drop replacemnacement guis for people who want to do that--giving access to x11 based stuff, and because there really needs to be a good qt2 6000 rom.

If you read through the fast kernel thread you will find means to access my ftp site. I suspect that the modules there might have v4l. I can't swear to it, because i prefer to hard compile v4l support, but you might check---  i mad a pretty complete set of modules....and if v4l is missing it was an oversight.

Can anyone tell me if the Guylhem ROM is totally ready for prime time? I'd really like to flash to something with a bit more robustness and optimization (preferably with the QT 2.x GUI) than the default Sharp ROM, but it looks like a lot of bugs are still being worked out. Is that really the case? And will I have to sacrifice any functionality/compatibility when flashing to the Guylhem ROM?

[it is not.

THE ROM is setup alittle differently fom most others, having an essential commandline component, version 1 of which seems almost done. The las release has ctrl and a swirched in qtopia, otherwise seemed pretty good.
the second component is a gui rootfs. this will at first be a qtopia 1.5. This too is nearly (as of last week) ready. Guylhem is tweaking the whole thing. I'd keep an eye out for an anouncement soon.

What is the advantage of this over OpenZaurus?
Is it compatible with an SL5600?

If this release is not ready, would it be an advantage to take guyhelms kernel instead of the OpenZaurus one?

Sorry, it's hard to get into all this for a beginner.
(I'll get a SL5600 tomorrow or so)

Hi

I've tried yesterday to flash this rom on my z6k, evrey thing went pretty smooth, but there was some issues that may be fixed.

1. /sbin/qt runs e2fsck and it is not attached to the console, so if it finds an error on fs and ask a confirmation, its impossible to do an input, after some seconds it freezes the console, no buttons work, i did not try to login through telnet, but if i remove one of the storage cards, messages are appearing on the console, so i suspect the kernel and daemons are running. This e2fsk should be runned with -a and attached to console.
2. I extracted Qtopia.tar.gz and fired qpe.sh, at first run fonts look unreadable, it can be fixed in desktop settings by unchecking "thick fonts" on fonts tab. So it should be fixed in the tarball itself, if this cacko tarball will stay for some time as main gui. I have already seen someone complains about it in another thread.
3. Also, rotation is unusable because there semm to be no rotated fonts, all the strings dissapear after rotation.

You're right, the qtopia 1.5 got some bugs.

Thanks for posting the solutions (I though I had?). If you have some time, I'm still trying to figure out how to fix magnifications crashes and date/time problems. Just found another bug : netsetup apps crashes when you click on "add"

Something weird is happening. IMHO it's all linked.

3 things (I'm loading the cacko image right now --with the new kernel. I plasn to take another shot at pocketworkstation vnc tonight

1). the e2fsck stuff is annoying sometimes, but seeme to release the console after a little while, and can be circumvented by simply opening a new shell

2) if qtopia 1.5/cacko (i prefer cacko if feasable) is becoming a pain maybe spend the time on qtopia 2.1 instead?  that would give a more desireable result in the end.  (and the basic rom lpotter did --the new one is quite nice btw-- runs about 23 megs installed  a very nice size for this setup

3). More info on the tosa.map thing.  I saved it --save link as saved it as html..i just snipped off the html.

all that is required is loadmap tosa.map?  that should fix key, where?  (I am trying to figure out why the keymap in pocketworkstation/vnc is such a mess. If this can fix it that would be  really handy)

Yes, I agree with adf. Please work with 2.1 instead. It'll probably bring this ROM to where it's already headed more quickly and with fewer bumps along the way.

Back in the world of Pocketworkstation/vnc.  No joy on the keymaps yet. Tried the tricks that work with Xqt... using xmodmap .xmodmaprc (smuelas' xmodmaprc) just gives errors.
I emailed Klauss W. in the hope that if he has time he might shed some light. there remains (for me at least)the issue of getting my ir kbd working in PW/vnc too....  it talks to ttys01...if anyone has some insight?

any luck w/ the native debian approach?

What's preventing me from going with 2.1 is it can't run many 1.5 apps. It's even worse  than going with OZ in terms of compatibility.

But maybe it has changed? Last time I couldn't run opie-reader and sharp commercial apps however.

potter has links up to opera, for example, right with the rom.

maybe I should backup, flash to default, flash to 2.1. and see. (the pocketworkstation keymap thing is still not solved) if it works I'll try to back up 2.1 and run it in guylhem rom.

That would take care of this afternnon

2.1 wouldn't install much of anything. Opera installs, but crashes imeediatley. netfron doesn't start, alians doesn't start. I used the oz ln -sf /opt/QtPalmtop/opera /usr/share opare bit , and tried MrSquishy's prefabbed opera 7.55 for Oz. no good

It is, though, I suspect as much a product of directory structure (being oz 2.1 based) as anything.

back to poking at pocketworkstation
