Hi ,

I just installed RC9 in my C750 , I am trying to connect (USB) the Z to a SuSE 9.2 machine but failed .
I can ping the Z from my desktop , the opposite way failed .
Can some one please send me a step by step procedure to setup the machines for a network connectivity .

thanks,
David.

Hi David,

before giving a hint it is neccesary to know which SuSE versing you are using ... because hotplug mechanism has changed (I think it was between 9.0 and 9.1/9.2) ...

you have to check some output at system console Ctrl-Alt-F10 while connecting Z to SuSE box ... look what output is at the end of /var/log/messages or post the dmest output ...

Good luck
Martin

Hi :-)

My first intention is that your firewall is the problem ... try to add usb0 to the internal interface of the firewall ...

but you will get an error starting up your computer, if the Z is not connected at startup ... because interface usb0 did not exist if Z is not connected properly ...

Second thought was ... did you change your setting of USB working as USBnet device not USBmasstorage ... look inside the Z menu under System Tools / USB and change it to Network

Hi ,

I managed to establish a connection over the USB , I have ping working in both sides and able to synchronize Ka/Pi & Ko/Pi in the two machines.
Now I'm looking for a way to mount the storage devices of the Z on the Linux (SuSE9.2 pro) PC over NFS .
I thiks that I successfuly set up an NFS server on the PC but I will help in setting up NFS client on the Z .

thanks,
David.

Use samba, it's alread turned on by default on the Z when doing usb networking.

Or you can try the usb storage connection, but it only allows you to mount the SD or CF card - can't do both at once.

Hi Stu ,

Thanks for replying . I have samba running on my Suse based PC (all WinXP PC's are visible) , I'm not sure that samba is running on the PDAX machine , ps aux | grep smb do not show any smb daemon running and smbstatus is not recognize.
Is samba server/client a part of RC9.1 ?
I looked on pdax feed , samba is presented bu there are many samba-codepage-xxx packages that I do not know what they are ....

cheers,

Hallo Leute,

*grummel*

Gruss

Hi david_dahan,

Sorry it was my mistake ... want to start a new thread ... because it is an other case with special fact ;-) ... but maybe someone other is able to help me

Are there other people with same problems on SuSE 9.3 ?

maybe it has something to do with the newer kernels ... I read a topic on "Openzaurus howto: usb networking" ... my problem is a little bit discribed there ... but can not get it work because no unconfigured usb0 is shown up ... lsusb not working, dmesg not showing any Z but recognizing a new device, Z shows up in usb storage mode.

Thanks a lot
Martin
