C-1000 Arives Tomorrow
« on: May 12, 2005, 06:14:40 pm »
Hi All,

My C-1000 arrives tomorrow, supposedly. Wish me luck with that one!

If you were me, what would the first thing you do with yours?

Reflash it? With what?

Install new apps on to it? If so, what?

I'd really like to have:

Wordprocessor, hancom or better
Spreadsheet, hancom or better
Apache, PHP, MySQL (I'm no programmer, but I can do a bit of PHP)
And if possible a nice colour syntax hilighting HTML/PHP editor.

But don't care too much what Rom I use, as long as I enjoy my C-1000!!!

I'm SO looking forward to having a Zaurus again. Selling my 5500 was a mistake looking back and trying to fulfill my gadgety desires with a Palm, big mistake!

The first thing I'd do is install the terminal and convert it to English

Opie still has issues to work out on the 1000, and PDAX and Cacko haven't got going yet either.

There's a working Apache/PHP/Mysql from [a href=\"http://www3.telus.net/~ranko]http://www3.telus.net/~ranko[/url]

I don't know about a colour syntax hilighter.

Handcom word and sheet are on the Sharp rom.

Are there better alternatives to the Hancom Apps yet?

So you're saying, stick with the Sharp ROM for now?

Stick with the sharp rom for a couple weeks to get a feel for it.  The photostorage app is quite nice (allows me to view my >1.6mb from my digital camera with ease).  Other than that the sharp rom gets boring after a short while...   so I would then flash to OZ 3.5.3.  There's already a fix for the FN key as well as the dpad, and the usb host features are sure to be added soon.  Even though a few buttons aren't mapped yet in OZ for the 1000, I still like it a 100 times better than the sharp rom.

Either way you'll get a chance to try both and decide for yourself which you like better

When I had my 5500 I always thought that the OZ Roms were way better than the Sharp ones, they even looked nicer! Though I was always having trouble installing apps, especially the Hancom ones :-(

I used to run OZ on my ipaq 3850 and was never that thrilled with it once I got beyond all the provided applications, installing anything and then getting it to run was a pain. Tried OZ on my C1000 and its just the same. Very nice, very polished, good supplied apps, frikin nightmare when it comes to random ipk's..

OTOH, the sharp rom looks pants, some of the supplied apps are lack lustre to say the least, but almost everything you care to try on it usually works (or can be easily made to work). I am going to hold out for cacko and pdax (I just have to give KDE a go!)

The first thing you should do is pack it up in a jiffy bag and send it to this address.....

Can't do that sorry, loving it way too much :-)

If I ever do get bored of it, which will be unlikely for the next few years, I'll certainly donate it to an OE developer.

I have to say my productivity with this rather than with anything else is SO much higher!

I know, it's a great site. I need to have a major play.

I just need to work out how to completely and totally backup everything on the zaurus so I can easily restore it if I ever mess it up.

I know there are guides out there, I just haven't sat down and really read them. I guess I'm feeling the fear, lol
