Problem - Irda With Ericsson R520
« on: May 18, 2005, 12:15:43 am »
I wish to adjust GPRS through Ericsson R520
Does not work or works very badly!

People advise to make here so:

echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/irda/max_tx_window
echo 1000 > /proc/sys/net/irda/min_tx_turn_time

But max_tx_window not present in RC9

I found that the z doesn't like the way my sony ericsson does infrared, so i got a bluetooth card and it works perfectly.

BT eat more power. And I haven't BT CF

Question still open - we need kernel 2.4.22 with max_tx_window. It's posibble?

With my SonyEricsson T610 I succeeded by doing:
echo 115200 > /proc/sys/net/irda/max_baud_rate

Moreover I use 'ate0v1' as init string. It works nicely with GPRS and as GSM modem. I was doing the same trick you mentioned when I was running cacko 1.21b on my Z. Since I switched to pdaXrom, I just have to adjust the max baud rate and it works. Try playing around with xircp, I found out how things work when I tried to send files over irda.

But daemon1 is right. It's much better with BT. I'm just using irda when I really have to save every 'drop of juice'. Since I have a bluetooth CF card mobile internet started to be useful. I hated to adjust my phone and Z when fetching the latest news while sitting in the metro train. Now I really go online even when walking, with my mobile still in the pocket - that's so much more convenient. I didn't notice a much bigger power drain oin my Z but rather on my mobile. Moreover I attached a BT stick to my home server, so I have internet access over BT at home and enjoy reading news on my sofa while having much less power drain than with WiFi.

Hope that helps

For me (SL-C3000, Ericsson T39m and T68i phones) none of the two tricks works. With a SIemens phone I can connect nicely, but I'd like to use the Ericsson phones.

Any other ideas what might be wrong or how I can narrow down the problem?

thanks
