Pdaxrom And Sl-6000
« on: May 22, 2005, 02:49:57 am »
I have sucessfully gotten pdaXrom to work on my 6k
This is how I did it:

Flashed to Guylhem's ROM (to partition the internal memory as one moint point)
reboot
then flash to RC10 of pdaXrom for the 6k
reboot
login as "root"
Then type "/etc/rc.d/init.d/wlan start" then "dhcpcd -G 'your gateway IP' wlan0"
That should connect you to the internet (assuming you dont have a WEP key)
Do a "echo 'src pda6k http://212.10.30.205/rc10/Zaurus-SL6000/feed/' >> /etc/ipkg.conf"
then the ususal "ipkg update", "ipkg upgrade"
now type "startx"
matchbox should come up within a few seconds (be patient)
All Done!
the system should be functional now

As for extra packages(like KDE, firefox, etc...) install them to your CF card
DO NOT INSTALL TO THE SD CARD (there is a driver bug)

I am currently working on a X11 configuration app for the 6k specific hardware
I will release it shortly...

SD card fix should be in place now in feed.

Also remeber before doing the ipkg update/upgrade you must have setup feed correct in package manager and then exit and do the ipkg update/upgrade.

I am pointed at the 6k feed in my ipkg.conf file (http://212.10.30.205/rc10/Zaurus-SL6000/feed) and ipkg update/upgrade runs and says there's a lot of packages that are up to date, but doesn't seem to find any updates to install e.g. the SD fix.  Any ideas?

oh i forgot to add this before "ipkg update, ipkg upgrade"

"echo 'src pda6k http://212.10.30.205/rc10/Zaurus-SL6000/feed/' >> /etc/ipkg.conf"

that *should* setup the correct feed

Thats great.  Is it possible to ever go back to the sharp rom?  Not that i like it but every so often I have to for work.  Also do you find it stable enough for everyday use? and do alarms work while it is suspended?

Thanks

how do I manage "zoom?"  obviously, i can write a modeline and expect  Xrandr to do something or other. But what will that be, exactly? will quake suddently snap into full screen? will my desktop randomly change res on rotation? will martians eat my dog?
how is this controlled on pdaX /6k default wm?

So i am a little confused by the feed.  I have installed and I have setup the feed as directed and it works.  But the install came with anohter feed listed in ipkg.conf that is nolonger around.  I read the pinned feed thread but it was for rc8 not rc10.  Is there another feed I should be using or are the packages i would want (or can run) in the feed listed here?

Thanks
Todd

to restore you should get a sharp rom image and install. you may have to partition as well... shouldn't be much hassle...
Gorgeous C860, 256 Sandisk SD, 1Gig Pretec 40x CF, PDAIR leather case & the really cool retractable iPDA USB sync/charge cable. Powered by PDAXROM BETA 1.

My wish - to have a Command & Conquer style game on my Z! (FREECNC!!!) Simcity 2000 would also be great.

hello,

i tried pdaXrom and i have to say that i am really impressed. i like it!
here are some experiences and some questions:

1. @cody> X11 configuration application for the tosa would be very nice,
thanx :-)

2. lack of speed: i tried mplayer with some options. it is far from being
usable. frozen-bubble freezed...

3. @laze>  the package manager shows me that i can open ipk's and
deb-files. i tried to install shine and it works without problems. but
what about applications which use libs? which ipk's will work?

4. @adf> is it possible to use the fast guylhem kernel with pdaXrom?

5. great idea to drop pim management. i installed kdepim and loaded
my backup files from my sd card.. works great..

6. i think i will not need videos on my tosa:-)

7. have to do more tests next weekend...

answered.

IMHO firefox is so much snappier on pdaX that I prefer it to the g-rom/ pocket debian.
Unfortunately more hardware (specifically the sharp camera) works only under sharp so far.

Anyone have "zoom" ( to 32x240 or 240x320 ) working on pdaX 6k?
