Sl-6000, Pdaxrom

Hi all,
Today I tried to install pdaX without success. I don't understand...

I try like:

I've seen there's pb with the nand tools. I have try more the install of guilhem's rom (success) and flash the rc10.tosa (no success).
There's no reboot?!?

When I open shell via the installer, i'm going to the /boot/ and see nothing but i'm not sure to be in the /root of the rom. Dmesg seems to be dmesg's installer, i see no error.
The rc10.tosa is dating: 16 may 2005
I've seen some people have install it since that date.

I don't undesrtand.

Any suggestions?

you aren't resizing in the pdax flashmenu,are you? don't.
otherwise, i'm afraid it was straightforward for me.

do a nand flash to guylhem and try again?

Here is How can you install pdaxrom on SL6000

1. Download the rom for SL6000 from http://212.10.30.205/downloads/110-rc10/
2. unpack the files into a CF/SD
3. Download a Gulyelm rom
4. Flash the zaurus (NAND RESTORE using gulyelm rom)
5. Power up the zaurus and pressing OK
6. In the Zaurus maintance menu select UPDATE FROM CF
7. The Pdaxrom menu installer starts and you can Select Install PDAXROM

After installation all would be ok.....

1. First flash your zaurus

I'm ok with you.
I make a nand restore with the guilhem rom (with or whithout qtopia) and after i flash with pdaxrom.
I don't understand why it doesn't work with me...
I have repeat the operation 5-6 times.

I redownload kath-tosa-rc10, and retry...

yeah, it's a joke... now, it's working, i've just move the sys0006.dbk to  an SD , and restore, reflash, it's working...

Could anyone that have tried Debian with Xqt and are now using pdaXrom, if there is a clear increase in speed with such applications as Firofox or Thunderbird or any other "big" one?
I will be very grateful to any comment on this subject.

Yes, there is.

The other benefit is that you can run debian apps directly in the pdax window manager.

haven't tried running the debian apps from pdax. I can tell you that firefox is actually useable (almost as quick as opera once loaded) in pdaX-- I couldn't stand it in XQT... even running the pdax firefox in xqt without debian.

I was toying for a while with klauss' vnc stuff for the 6k with a guylhem setup just 'cause xqt bogged down too much. that with keypebble would be the optimal qtopia based 6k setup, I think (once the keymap is straightened out for use with the fbvncviewer). the next guylhem with softfloat and qtopia 2.1 would be an evolution of this. (sorry for the side trip into qtopia--- just being clear that I've really looked at this  )

in brief, then: pdaXrom is a hell of a lot snappier than XQT.

I want to flash to pdaXrom to try it out, but I want to be able to go back to my current Sharp ROM setup. Is there any way I can preserve my configuration <i>exactly as it is</i> so that if I don't like pdaXrom I can instantly switch back to the way things were before flashing?

If so, could someone offer a detailed step-by-step explanation of how to do it?

This is really the only thing preventing me from trying out new ROMs: the worry that all my current customisation will be lost -- well, that and the possibility that my inability to follow simple directions will result in a brick.

there are really two things here:

1. to flash back the sharp rom.
2. restore your customization.

for flashing back the sharp rom, i just use the original sharp s/w that came with the cd (put the stuu on CF and then reset with D+P).

for restoring back the customization, i use the standard sharp backup/restore. the only problem i notice with backup/restore is that ssh has to be reinstalled, everything else is ok.

good luck!! i have done this more than a few time with all kinds of roms and havent been brocked yet!! (famous last words??)

Well, I tried flashing to pdaXrom about ten minutes ago and it was a complete wash. I followed these instructions but couldn't even access the maintenance menu. In my first few attempts, I brought up a blank screen and my battery light began flickering... somehow, despite my probably unnecessary panicking, I managed to reset and got into the diagnostic menu and could reboot back to my original settings from there.

I am absolutely f*ing clueless about this stuff.

That said, after all this, I'm beginning to think that the Zaurus isn't really for me. Yottabit and Padishah_Emperor, both far more technically skilled than I am, have recently sold their Zs and moved on to something more user-friendly. I'm beginning to think I should do the same. I bought my Z in part because I wanted to learn to work with the command-line environment and such, but even an instruction as seemingly straightforward as "make sure your CF card is FAT16 formatted" requires a step-by-step for me. And I really get confused by the conflicting tutorials: Do I have to flash to the guylhem ROM first? What the f*k is a NAND and how does it differ from "normal" flashing?

Apologies if I sound a bit fed up.
