Hello again,

The ipkgs, as promised.

These are the battery-plugin and the clipboard manager plugin for xfce4.

Chero.

you are a life-saver

the standard one stopped working, for some reason... this one might work

now, off to more pressing system errors...

The "-" in the filenames seems to change to "_" when uploading files here.
The correct names are :

xfce4-battery-plugin_0.3.0_armv5tel.ipk
xfce4-clipboard-plugin_0.4.1_armv5tel.ipk

(just in case you want to install to SD)

Did you check your PM ?

step by step :

Download the base file :
[a href=\"http://zaurus.spy.org/feeds/cacko/pdaXrom/1.1.0/rc10/chero/old/xfce4_4.2.2_armv5tel.ipk]http://zaurus.spy.org/feeds/cacko/pdaXrom/....2_armv5tel.ipk[/url]

install it :
Code: [Select]
# cd /to/where/you/put/the/file
# ipkg install xfce4_4.2.2_armv5tel.ipk
This installed the files in "/", if you want them on SD instead :
Code: [Select]
# cd /to/where/you/put/the/file
# ipkg -d /mnt/card install xfce4_4.2.2_armv5tel.ipk

Make sure you have libxml2 on your system, it's in the feed.
Quit matchbox
from command prompt :
Code: [Select]
# startxfce4
Now you should be running xfce4

For plugins and additional files, look here :
http://zaurus.spy.org/feeds/cacko/pdaXrom/1.1.0/rc10/chero
http://zaurus.spy.org/feeds/cacko/pdaXrom/.../rc10/chero/old

For additional info, try to read this threads first :
The making of xfce4 (thread with a bit confusing title). It's a quite long thread, but it's worth reading.
Xfce4 on C1000 Howto

and this thread, of course.

By the way, what Z are you using.

Wow, this is very nice indeed.  Tried a few different desktop managers and Xfce4 by far the best.  It really adds to the pdaXrom's laptop feel.  Thanks for all the hard work Chero.

When you install the panel-menu-plugin and the files added in the first post of this thread, you'd have it in the menu where you'd expect it to be. (look at the screenshots in the first post.
Note : the correct filename of the ipk containing the menu files is "xfce4-menu-pdax_0.0.1_armv5tel.ipk" (this doesn't contain the plugin)

ok, here is the problem - when i install the xfce4-menu-pdax.... the desktop comes up as 'elongated' i.e., i dont see the bar at the bottom. i am using 6000L (default is potrait mode). before installing this ipk, the desktop is ok.

what is the command line for putting zaurus into suspend. i tried 'suspend' but that doesnt seem to work.

help with either of the two above is much appreciated.

cheers

try "xsuspend".

I'll check the xfce4-menu-pdax ipk, I don't remember putting a file in there that says something about the used screen.
Here's what you could do (while xfce is not running):
In your /home/root/.config/xfce4/menustart there's a file called "menu.xml". Copy this file somewhere else.
Then delete the dirs /home/root/.config and /home/root/.cache
Start xfce4 again. The folders .config and .cache will be created again. Add the menu plugin again to the panel. You now have an empty menu.
Then copy the menu.xml again where it should be to get the full menu back. (maybe you should quit xfce to perform this last step)

I never tried it this way, but I guess it will do the trick.

thanks chero. some progress but still not there...

xsuspend works. and that is a __major__ help.

copied menu.xml and then deleted .config & .cache.
xfce4 did start ok.
now the dumb question . how do i _add_ the menu plugin to the panel??

the other thing i did is to change the position of the panel from the bottom to the right of the screen - i get the full panel now. so for sure, on 6000L the size of the panel on the bottom of the screen is such that the ends get cropped unless the size of the panel is changed to small.

cheers

Right click (fn + screen-tap) on the panel, choose "add new item" and select the panel menu plugin. This is when you installed the plugin first. You can remove items the same way.
BTW : did you already try right click on the desktop, this should give you a menu with all installed apps, including "suspend".
There is a full (but short) manual on www.xfce.org (in the documentation section)

adding the xfce-panel-menu just makes the panel disappear altogether (like previously).

but using the right click  on desktop does bring the the menu of all apps.

so, despite the missing panel, i can use xfce. thanks

jfyi, right click  (at least on my 6000L) is shift+screen tap.

cheers,

thanks chero. had figured the same thing. i have the menu back now - didnt copy the menu.xml file, just pointed the menu to pick up the file instead.

one thing i noticed is that rotate causes some problems if the panel is set to autohide and its position is vertical. the panel ends to be towards the middle of the screen in landscape mode. probably a bug already reported...

just saw that rc11 is out but someone reported a bug not recognizing SD on 6000L so i'll just wait a while.

cheers,
