Falling Back To The Stock Rom... Reasons

i think its a good idea to write down my experiences with this rom.

first i have to say that i tested pdaXrom for more than 4 weeks.
the main reason to  come back to the stock rom is time. it takes
some time to get things to work with this rom. certainly as a side effect
one learns a lot of new things. the rom recognizes the installed progs
on a card. so i did a copy of it and a nand backup to get back to the
state i leaved. okay, here are some points i dont like:

1) my z didnt wake up after a suspend, compare forum thread...
this happened about 7 times. i had to take out the battery, plug in
the charger and so on. this is not good if you are away from your
charger. one time i had to reflash.

2) system (X) crashes nearly every second time after exiting the wm
(matchbox/xfce4). exiting from landscape mode workes without problems, why?

3) similiar to 2) suspending works only every second time. it seems to be a light
issue and the solution "tapping the screen" lead me sometimes to further crashes.
rotating the screen and suspending worked much better.

4) the time problem after reboots...

5) the annoying warnings while booting "inode...". i think (but i am not sure)
that this is the reason why sometimes library files or symbolic links (for instance
for xpdf) are missing. reinstall the application...

i dont want to list the things i like. there are a lot of them (!) and i am sure that i will
return to this rom until the next release..

A) Try guylhem Rom..there is a new stable release

 you did install the sd card fix, right?

Personally, Ive had fewer problems..though suspend/resume is far from perfect
and I really need better peripheral support, I like pdaX very much.

it's all quite strange...
I didn't get lockups, X crashing or Z not waking up from a while now... actually I have not serious stability problem since last 3-4 release candidate.

Since you are using a different machine, whose support is very recent, the only thing I can say is that:
1) probably you'll have the same satisfaction I'm getting from this ROM in the next future
2) everyone is usefull for developing process, but no one should sacrifice his device for development without the right serenity

I feel very good when using pdaXrom, because I know that without pdaX my Z would be a simple, bad working pocketPC. I'll give pdaXrom all the time and the trust I gave until this moment, because now I can say that it was well-spent.

If you don't feel like this, you're right: go back to stock rom, and try back pdaXrom when support will be better. You'll be an usefull development-helper that day.

Anyway, remember: I had your condition a few release-candidate ago... now I'v got a linux table pc I can put in my pocket - not more, not less.

What do you expect it should do?  If you exit from the actual WM, .xinitrc ends, X exits. This is the normal way, it doesn't "crash". Clarify this point please...

I'm trying to get the latest copy of pdaXrom installed on my C1000 but i'm not sure im looking in the right place. I have RC10 but don't know where to look for these fixes or updates I hear people talking about. A quick point in the right direction would be most appreciated!

@zumi> maybe "the wm (or whatever) locks up" would be more precise. the panel etc
disappears and i am lost with a wallpaper. nothing happens, so i have to do a
reset causing more inode warnings and maybe some loss of data...

@scoutme> i will give you an example. rotatating the screen should grant that the
"direction keys" work properly, but they didnt. so i learned how to modify some key
tables.. such things give me more insight in the rom. but in the end you are damned
right. i am thinking in a similiar way and i have my pdaXrom backup for the near future:-)

it looks in my case like

Cheers malik, I had tried downloading the entire feed directory but from looking at your ipkg.conf it looks like I didnt have it configured properly. I'll try again tonight.

Hi,

For number 2, a hackish way to fix it would be to modify that exit function so that it switches to landscape, and then exits.  I don't know how involved it would be to do that, but it might work.
