if your willing to go down the untested route you could try using the c3k install steps to see if it works. i dont see why it wouldnt work unless there are some major changes between the 2 models

i think it's closer to a C1000 than C3000... because the hard drive just counts as extra storage in an extra CF slot

anyway, DON'T do it until someone else does... you don't want to brick your Z

Ok, so
I've the same problem, i need pdaxrom
so as differences between models the C3100 is closer than the C1000 than the C3000
but the partitionning of the flash doesn't permit to install as is pdaxrom, we need a repartitionner (i've tried)

you have also another technique to install pdaxrom, on the harddisk, the installation is the same as the C3000, and you finish with a multi boot, but the harddisk connection with windows is a little more risky (you have to reformat your user space of the hard drive in ext2 wich is not natively read by windows)

We would love to release a C3100 version but Sharp won't lend us one and our current revenues from banners plus donations can barely keep Sash in his appartment.

Anyone knows how to mount or uncompress the initrd.bin? on a linux box or on a zaurus?
if i can mount it, i can also uninstall some big programs
the only problem to try pdaxrom on a C3100 is the root partition is only 32mb, so if we can reduce the size of the installer for about 8 megs it is ok for alphatest

and i really hope you'll solve the money problem Laze :/

You dont so much decompress and initrd as you do mount it. I dunno if this one will be different becuase its a .bin, but with a standard initrd you can mount them using 'mount' in linux, from memory you need to specify that its a ramdisk file in the command. Sorry I'm not on my linux box right now so I cant look up the command, but if you google it or use MAN then you shouldnt have too much trouble.

I've found a script or two to mount this file
but now my problem is even more simple... on my box mount doesn't recognize -t jffs2
and it is normal because in the man i've absolutely no jffs2 in partition types
so, how can i install the jffs2 support on linux? i've a debian sid, a mandrake and a fedora  (a chance that i'm testing some distros )

Ok i've some success with jffs2
i can mount initrd.bin, or even modify the tar.gz file
and i've found a bin to mkfs.jffs2 the result
i've just to try this last operation and flash the result to try it on the Z

anybody knows the exact syntax to make the initrd.bin?
i ask because i've read that you need to specify the offset of the first block you want to write on the flash, and i don't know this offset

also, if there is some success, there'll be a 38mb big file to host for others, if someone have a host to serve that, please contact me

Again little progress
i've successfully flashed the pdaxrom on the 3100 but...
no boot, no charge anymore, so NAND restore
can it come from the kernel? where to find a kernel for a 3100?
or maybe it come from the package and the manner to do it.

How did you get it to flash teh pdaxrom?  I thought our Nand parition sizes were off.  What did you do to make it work?

Did you use a kernel specific to the 3100?  If not try flashing the tetsu kernel for the 3100 available on his site.  If you used the wrong kernel that could prevent your Z from booting.  Please let us know how it goes.
