Oz 3.5.4 Rc Bug & Work-around List

FYI I've aded this to bug #54:

I've been experiencing frequent lockups with my SL-5600 using OPIE 3.5.4-RC1
(originally using the 'official' RC, now using Hrw's image from here
http://ewi546.ewi.utwente.nl/tmp/hrw/oz-3.5.4-rc-poodle/, dated 2006-01-02, same
with both), having to use the battery switch to reset the unit. I also cannot
suspend the using the cancel button, while the menu suspend seems to work ok.
The unit itself isn't completely locked, just OPIE, as I can ssh into it & use
'/etc/init.d/opie restart' to reset it instead of rebooting. I don't have to be
using the unit to have it lock; just sitting in the cradle for a while
oftentimes is enough.

Update: The freezing issues have been cleared up by just disabling the doc-tab. Guess it's still buggy

Oz 3.5.4 Rc Bug & Work-around List
« Reply #77 on: January 24, 2006, 05:02:32 pm »
Hi All!

Here is my bit. I have tried gpe (gpe-image-collie-20051024174503.rootfs.jffs2) with zImage-collie-32-0-20051030185511.bin on SL-5000.

There is suspend bug. When I try to do  "apm --suspend" it says:

Hardware        : Sharp-Collie
killall: apmd: no process killed
Cannot open APM device: No such file or directory

"/etc/init.d/apmd start/stop" works or at least does not complain

Other strange thing is that at very start gpe asks to create new user without option to use root user . When gpe-dm configured to login with no password it has no option to choose which user to login. By default it is root. When loged in as root I start calendar, todo etc. gpe complains "unable to open database: /root/.gpe/...."
Another thing is that I have not found a way to remove applet from the panel. Panel settings give oportunity to change order of applets but not to remove them.

Network via usb works fine except for ipv6 module. Cards are recognized and mounted (CF 256Mb fat, SD 1Gb ext3)

Happy fixing! :-)

I must say that gpe looks very nice. I really want to see release.

Opie test is coming...

russman: join oz 3.5.4 test http://openzaurus.org/wordpress/2006/01/09...-release-plans/ as 3.5.4rc are obsolete now - that problem which you have with apmd is solved.

applets are removed by hold on panel and selecting from menu
OpenZaurus 3.5.4x Release Manager
OpenEmbedded, Ångström, Poky developer
My website

Misc embedded hardware.

Hi all,

Here is my report after 24hours of OZ 3.5.4. I will check which bug has already been reported to bugtracker as soon as possible, but here is a list of (some of the) good and (each) bad points i found using 3.5.4 GPE image on my sl-c750. I wrote them down when i found them, so there is no particular order in this list.

   Found before any update :
:)  beautiful bootsplash, except the GPE logo than comes over it...
:(  switching to chvt1 during the boot produces garbage on the screen
:) wonderful ! i can choose French as default language for GPE ! (partial translation, though)
:) only 83% of root partition used. good point.
:) root password asked for settings, that is good too.
:) wifi card works right out of the box.
:(  ":exit" is not implemented in vi. ":x" works, though.
 :(  reboot from a x root console doesn't work.
:(  loging in as a root user : "cannot change to home directory".
:(  "reboot" doesn't work at all, even outside X, logged as root.

After updating and a hard reboot :
:( still this nasty gpe splash on the boot splash. Maybe it should be displayed right before X starts up, like the nvidia logo does on my desktop.
:) boot is quite fast, good point.
:)  mini-browser is far better than ever !
:( cannot add wireless monitor to panel.
:) yeepeekay ! screen rotation applet works !!
 :( no auto rotation.
 :( slight screen flickering.
:( Aerial panel applet is displaied, when clicking on it, a menu is displaied, but if i click on any line of this menu, then nothing happens and the applet won't respond, untill i remove it and add it back. (Found the reason : "Gdk-Warning **: gdk_property_get(): length value has wrapped in calculation (did you pass G_MAXLONG?)") This affects many GPE programs.
:(  in System Information, Log Display/Session Log, "df : /dev/.static/dev: Permission denied" keeps on printing. I guess it is due to the free space monitoring part.
:( enabling/disabling Visual Effects in "Look and Feel" makes the X session crash. Enabling Visual Effects produces garbage while menus are loading.
:)  VERY GOOD POINT much better batt. life than ever on my zaurus !
:) IR beaming to my Sony Ericsson T610 works like a charm.
:( USB Configuration doesn't save configuration.
:(  Audio Mixer, only accessible to Root user doesn't ask for Root pasword and fails on "Device or resource busy".

Even though this list is mainly here to give the bad points, there are much more good points in this release, and i'm sure most bugs will be corrected really soon.

@devs : you do the most incredible work i've ever seen in opensource projects. OZ i am impressive piece of work, keep on doing your excellent job, and thanks for your hard work.
