Pdaxrom, Firefox And Development Tools

I actually prefer fltdj to kopi..much faster.

Firefox loads more slowly than opera. it loads pages about as fast. It opens its own menus (like preferences) more slowly.  It is perfectly useable on pdaxrom--I found it unuseably slow on xqt, if that helps. Firefox has more of a future than opera, in that new versions can be built, and extensions and plugins (like gplflash, or evn vlc) can be used. My solution is to keep a couple browsers available:
Firefox for secure or complex or media rich stuff
Dilllo for quick casual browsing (as fast or faster than opera, usually good rendering, no ssl)
links (links -g) as a quicker lower bandwidth (and sometimes more stable) alternative to dillo.

you will probably find that you'll want a swapfile with firefox, though it is not necessary by any means.

laze: 2 months? I'll have to put red and green leds in it .....

adf: You just got two moths more :-) And no it comes prefitted with blinking leds etc.

Shelia please explain this and problems with resolv.conf?
>>I have just installed pdaXrom. I started this thread because I couldn't find firefox in the 3100 pdaXrom feeds, but you have to prefix 'mail' to the front of other models' feeds. Then firefox is there. I have only run it for about 20 minutes, and so good so far.<<

Firefox is not in the feed: [a href=\"http://212.10.30.205/rc12/Zaurus-C1000-C3100/feed/]http://212.10.30.205/rc12/Zaurus-C1000-C3100/feed/[/url] or http://pdaxrom.org/unstable/. It can only be found in: http://mail.pdaxrom.org/rc12/Zaurus-7x0-860/feed/. It is also not in the http://212.10.30.205/rc12/Zaurus-7x0-860/feed/. It's just there's alot of inconsistencies between the exact domainnames of the feeds, and how they're specified on this forum's announcement, and on the pdaxrom site. There seems to be an old version of the site that is still active and it gets confusing really fast.

I assumed you could set-up nameservers through Lan & Wifi or USB in System Tools, but you have to set-up nameservers by editing resolv.conf manually, which is a pain because the ROM only includes vi. It would be so nice if nano, pico or edit was included for us non-geeks so we wouldn't have to jump through the hoops of learning vi commands, or getting everything by ip address only.

http://mail.pdaxrom.org/rc12/Zaurus-7x0-860/feed/ and the http://212.10.30.205/rc12/Zaurus-7x0-860/feed/ is te exact same.

The basic "idea" right now it that the 7x0x-860 feeds contains all the non special optimized versions.

When we make the new site available it will probally be that all files are available in all feeds.

- Yesterday, and right before I posted this, they weren't (I DID doublecheck because it seemed so illogical Captain). Now they're the same. Weird!
- mcedit is confusing. Show it to someone who has never used it. They won't be able to figure it out without a manual.
- Can you point me to some sites where I can figure out how to compile my own packages?
- I was trying to run alot of packages to purposefully see how far I could go to break things, and loading firefox, kopi, aterm, and then firefox again by mistake hung everything. How do I do a ctrl alt delete? I had to take out the battery. Then after a restart, my mycalendar.ics file was 0 bytes and caused a segmentation fault in kopi, and I had to delete it, then things worked. I formatted the hd as 1 partition ext3 with no swap file. Should I re-format and make one? Or is there another solution? Or is this why kopi is in unstable?
- Firefox is definitely way faster using pdaXrom than the Sharp ROM and X.

cross (on a pc)  or native (on your zaurus) compilation?
if you search a bit here you will find some information. Also see the documentation on www.pdaxrom.org.

You probably run out of memory.

ctr-alt delete would be calendar-address-bs.

When you stop the zaurus by removing the battery, all sorts of strange things can happen to your open files,,,,

If you're looking for something simple, install "nedit" from the feed.

If you go for native compiling, there's a start of a howto on my website (see signature)
