Can you flash Wince on Zaurus
« Reply #15 on: July 20, 2004, 03:43:41 pm »
Hey, easy on the guy!!!!

Me too I'd like to see WinCE on the big Z, but just to score geek points! (and preferably in multiboot mode, so you can show to people how crappy M$'ses wannabe "operating" system is, by swapping to the power of Linux on the fly...

And why: because it is possible, indeed!
Ever played ASCII Quake??? CRAZY concept, but one guy wrote a render engine that replaced the graphical render engine of Quake and turned all pixels into ASCII characters. And it worked.

Usefull? Haha, no, I don't think so, but pretty amazing!!!! Cool but useless

Same goes for WinCE on the big Z: usefull? Naaaah, but a very cute joke!

JM.

Why, why, why, why, oh God help me WHY does this subject not die? WHY? This garbage has been trawled over again and again and again.

So I will say it again.. (sigh)

No, the Z does not run damned WindowsCE/PocketPC or whatever the stupid thing is called, NO NO NO.

It doesn't, it wont.  I will not be unkind but it seems we have a real problem with some newbies who have aquired one of the most obscure products on the market and then wish to install an OS to make it the same as the rest of the garbage on the market. I seriously don't get it.

And before the inevitable replies which we've seen ad infinitum, yes I know some people "like the hardware but..." or there is some "software for PPC and if only..."  or even that tired arguement which has been raised and culled many a time "because it's cool..." whatever that means. To /dev/null with it, along with questions like "when will Apple make a PDA" or "why doesn't Sharp do X or Y".

The Zaurus is a Linux device, that means it was designed to run Linux. If you want Microsoft's products, just buy one, there is a sea of such devices out there.  You CAN install a Linux on some CE machines, go to a CE forum and put your questions there, this is a Zaurus user group, by inference you may deduce that this is predominantly a Linux forum.

Zaurus + CE = NO
CE device + Linux = Yes, depending on machine

A simple equation that does not require an understanding of higher mathematics or the Oracle of Delphi.

Please, no more.. just do a search before posting these questions. It's an OLD discussion and a waste of 1's and 0's going over it again.
Left Linux and Linux PDAs... sorry, got boring.  Switched to Mac.

Sorry Padisha, I didn't want to step on your toes.

I myself very strongfully dislike Micro$oft's flakey OS wannabees.

The reason why I bought a Zaurus in the first place, is BECAUSE IT RUNS LINUX, so that it's integration with Linux is flawless (even though you can install Linux on other handhelds, I wanted the Zaurus because it COMES with Linux (and Java))!

I'd like to emphasise this because I'm not a newbie who just bumped into the most exotic handheld and now suddenly * NEEDS * WinCE to run my old wince software.

I also think WinCE is baaaad, let this be clear and I don't want to USE it, I just want to have a laugh with it, that's all!!!! Capish?

(In contrast with the original poster, who actually wanted to use wince on his Zaurus (yuck!))
