Voip Sip & 6000
« on: November 09, 2005, 01:04:20 pm »
Been trying a while to get proper SIP operation out of any piece of SW with the pdaXrom.

I have tried kphone, that works fine with fwd both on the echo test or calling another peroon on fwd but no way can I get it to work with anything else. I have some SIP accounts that I use with Panasonic Wifi phones and they work fine but those same accounts in kphone crash the kphone, fail authentication or I can ring it occasionally but kphone wont let me answer then it crashes. Just generally seriously unstable I think.

linphonec and linphone won't do anything, It doesn't give me enough info as to why even with debug on. There doesn't seem to be the graphical front end available for pdaxrom.

tkcphone doesn't seem to have been compiled for pdaXrom.

Any others and is anyone using kphone successfully on a 6000 with pdaXrom adn a real SIP account?

I need a SIP phone on my 6000 too,
I tried kphone-pi from the unstable feed,  I can register myself on my own SIP server and make SIP request to other phone. SIP messaging seems work and the remote phone ring correctly, I can dial, hanging up, holding, forwarding etc but audio doesn't work. I set the audio device to /dev/audio/dsp but nothing.
On the PBX i see a lot of RTP error.
If I have spare time I'll try to recompile kphone or another SIP phone. Also a IAX client should be fine!

Did your kphone work wid FWD? What ipk have you used? And what settings?

thanks

Max

Both the 0.9.7 and the 1.0.0 works (this one was posted in the VOIP thread in the 6000 forum a couple of days ago). The older one wouldn't install so I untarred the package and did it manually. The latter one installed fine and is much better as it allows multiple accounts.

FWD really does work well but the echo delay with the default settings was 2 or 3 seconds. I altered the preferences> audio > codec > size of payload to 240 instead of 80 and it rocks on FWD now. That setting is best on 240 whatever provider I use it with.

I put the Guylhem ROM back on last night and redid all the settings in Kphone to the same as the pdaXrom and it works in exactly the same way, ringing but no audio, can't answer incoming calls but putting it on hold works though you cant take it off hold without hanging up. For this reason I don't reckon recompiling it will solve the problems.

There is precious little information about which ports to use so in all cases I enabled DMZ and pointed it at the PDA.

I also installed kphone on this Gentoo desktop, direct from the Gentoo feeds and it has the same problems.

Also of interest, probably regarding some posts about battery life with the pdaXrom is that when you start kphone the first thing it does is generate samples. This procedure on pdaXrom is at least 10 times as fast as it is on the Guylhem ROM. If this applies to all tasks then it's no wonder that the battery life is so much shorter.

I tried some different ipk for kphone-pi 1.0.0 but they seem to work but instead they don't install...
Can you tell me where you find your IPK or post a link? it was a link for sourceforge or it was posted on an oesf thread?

thanks,

Max

Hi !

I didn't have much time recently but now I've tried the Kphone ipk you told me.
It works fine for me. I've created a SIP account on Asterisk as proxy server and then I make and receive  calls from a SIP hard-phone without problems.
The quality is good enough (I tried G.711 on my LAN) and the SIP messaging seems correct. I can also hold and transfer calls.
The main issue is that the ring doesn't work. I'd like to hear the buzzer when call arrive but I don't know how enable it.
Setting it in the config menu has no effect.
Any suggestion?

Max

Welcome to my world. I just posted the same question about ringing today

After much trying and messing I concluded that the problems with Kphone are related to "free" sip / VOIP accounts not being coinfigured correctly at their end. I too installed Asterisk and much reading and removal of hair, I finally got there and Kphone works without fault, apart from the ring.

maybe not helpful - kppi 1.0.0 has a preference for ringing type - at least the one in cacko feed did - which allows you to choose how to make a ringing sound.

meanwhile, I get no audio at all, even though I can see the RTP packets leave my SIP server. sigh... running cacko1.23 and kppi 1.0.0.

I guess there's some problem in the server side if you use FWD. Sometimes I can hear on kpone but can't send audio out. In my windows desktop pulver communicator, I can't hear but can talk through. Sometimes my kpone just works fine. Some wierdness at FWD I guess. My kpone is on stock rom.

Hi,

I tried kphone/pi 1.0.0. It started well. I can make a call to welcome@proxy01.sipphone.com and listen to the welcome message. However, when I tried the echo test (echo@...), I can only hear some noise echo from SipPhone.com.

I checked my CPU usage and found that kp/pi used 95%+ of my CPU. I guess I hear noise from sipphone.com because my Z is too busy to encode my voice. Anyone have the same problem? Do you have any solution to fix it? I am using a C860.  Thanks.

I just started a thread in the software section where I described my efforts to get it  to work on cacko1.23 with 860.

yes, the Z is working hard, but it does work.

I get weird screen rotation problems though! I have to be in landscape mode and run kppi at command-line prompt... kppi starts OK, but when I minimise the app, and then bring it back, the screen rotates to portrait mode!

Hi,

Thanks seculatrix. I signed up FWD and it works fine. I think it is a problem in sipphone.com.
