well, I just had a quick check on the price for an ipod mini on shopbot and they cost almost as much as a 4GB CF card. As I understand, they have 4GB microdrives internally and from various reviews the general consensus is that CF flash cards are faster and more durable than CF microdrives. So unless they had 8GB microdrives, I don't really see a point in scavenging their microdrives instead of getting a retail CF card.

amazon has 4GB microdrives for $140 AR which still looks to be a whole lot cheaper than 4GB CF cards. I certainly wouldn't consider getting an ipod mini to get the microdrive out of it.
