Pilot-link 0.12.0-pre4 And J-pilot 0.99.8 Ipks

Hi,

I recently got one of those Fossil PDA Watches, and wanted to be able to sync it with my SL-C1000 over Ir for Maximum Geekiness. I ended up building pilot-link and J-Pilot from source, so I packed them up as ipks incase anyone else wants them. I've been using them for a couple of days - there is some occasional flakiness while syncing, and the odd GUI funniness, but it's definately useable....

Anyway, just thought I'd share - you can get them here

I've just upgraded to rc12, very nice, keep up the good work!

P.S. There is also some stuff on there on mangling the kernel to get my orinoco/spectrum24 WiFi card to work properly in monitor mode for Kismet...

Wow, that's terrific!  I'm just beginning to think of getting a Fossil myself!  Please keep up this great project.

PS. Oh yeah forgot to ask, wouldn't it be nice if it can use usb as well?

Thanks for the updates to jpilot & pilot-link!  I tried them on my rc12 C760 and PalmOS4.1 m505. pilot-link was fine (pilot-xfer worked as expected with both -l & -i <file.pdb> options).  But I couldn't get the new jpilot to sync at all.  It would either give an error "This palm has a NULL user id"
and suggest I install a new user on the palm -- which install-user handled admirably, but to no avail with jpilot -- or it would complain that the user on the palm didn't match the last user to sync and then ask would I like to sync anyway... but if I said "yes" it would immediately abort the sync.

I noticed that after using jpilot 0.99-8's "install a new user" function, my jpilot.rc would have a line like user_id -1073752484 instead of the usual positive (and smaller) number for user_id.

any idea what's up?  I've still got jpilot 0.99-4 working but of course that's older than is advisable.

Yet when I use pilot-xfer -p /dev/ircomm -l , I got this error:

Hi, yeah I used install-user to get the id, and entered it in manually rather than let jpilot read it, which seemed to get rid of this error. I'll look into this though, as it sounds like another problem with the way arm is unpacking numbers.

Hi, I would use the same port that you use for jpilot with pilot-xfer, i.e. /dev/ircomm0 on your system. It is /dev/ircomm on mine, but it depends on what setup you are using as to how it's named. Give pilot-xfer -p /dev/ircomm0 -l a try and see if that helps...

I've npt tried it with USB yet, as I don't have the right cable (little USB plug on both ends) but i don't see why it wouldn't work. When I get a cable, I'll test it out..

Today I tried JPilot under xfce4 and found some minor glitches about the window sizes in different views.  It seems Memo and Todo are narrower compared to Address and Datebook (the widest one).  Resizing can only optimize the window sizes of Memo and Todo, but not the other two.  

Under matchbox window sizing is just fine.  The "Privacy" button and other stuff at the right edge can even get shrunk (not so good-looking but I'd prefer this way  ) to fit the optimized window size.    

Yet the bonus of running JPilot under xfce4 is being able to use the little precious space at the botton of the screen which is used up by the non-collapsable taskbar in matchbox.

Also I would like to know if there is a way to configure the sizes of the main window and the different panels manually.  I've tried to changed the values of the window_width and window_height in .jpilot/jpilot.rc but restarting the app it somehow won't open with the specified dimensions.  Opening up jpilot.rc there are new and seemingly random (and always bigger) values.  Does this have to do with the pane values as well?   What would be the best setting(s) to display all four views?  

I'm just beginning to get more and more into JPilot.  It's even sleeker, faster and more functional than fltdj, although it doesn't look as good.   Being able to sync with a Fossil/Abacus Wrist PDA watch is the main reason why I clicked the 'confirm' button on ebay.  

Still waiting for my Abacus (quite a lot of good bargains on ebay recently) to arrive.  Hopefully it'll turn out to be a nice companion to my C1000.

I made my older jpilot (0.99.4) ipk from Pocketworkstation's .deb package, and they have a .deb for jpilot-plugins too.  So I packaged those up [a href=\"http://interstel.net/~girash/zaurus/feed]here.[/url]  They're totally untested (except for making sure jpilot still runs and sees the plugins), and it's obviously not as good as having plugins to go with cjb's newer jpilot, but they still beat a boot to the head.

Still trying cjb's version.  Everything works great (esp now under iamphet's version of WindowMaker   )  except that my memos and addresses in Chinese (and other Asian languages as well?) all turn to messy codes.  Setting the fonts in Preferences doesn't help, even with the correct locales (in my case zh_TW.UTF-8) and unicode fonts properly installed.  

I've learned from the JPilot mailing list that Chinese will display fine if Jpilot is configured with --enable-gtk2.  Since cjb's version seems to have gtk2 disabled at configure-time, I'm thinking of compiling one with this flag and see if things will get improved.

However, I've just a very inexperienced beginner of compiling apps.   Could any expert here teach me how to apply the diffs available on cjb's Zaurus Stuff page?   So far I've managed to compile a couple of apps for pdaX, but this is surely yet another new lesson for me.  Thanks!
