Applications Randomly Cycling On Sl-5500
« Reply #15 on: December 05, 2005, 09:38:12 am »
It makes no different if I disable the application keys. It still goes beserk when I use the keyboard.

Editing from the main computer via SSH, while possible, seems a bit pointless, as I may as well just edit the files on my computer - I only got a zaurus so I could edit HTML/PHP files when I was away from my main computer.

I think I've run out of options - apart from getting a Zaurus that actually works...

If you are brave, you can try taking it apart and putting it back together again. But only if you take full responsibility for what happens. :-)

Actually, your mention of 'crosswires' caused me to look under the keyboard. I can see 8 thin wire connectors that are obviously sending the input from the keyboard.

One of these looks bent and is not hooked in properly. Therefore, I bet this is the cause of the problem, as the problems occur on certain keypresses (such as space or Fn).

As I am unable to poke this back in place, I'm going to have to take the bottom cover off (once I can buy a tiny screwdriver) and attempt to re-insert the connector.

I don't really see that I have much to lose.

OK,

To conclude this post, I managed to remove the front cover, gently bend the loose connector wire back into shape and insert it back into the slot, then screw the cover back on.

The keyboard is now working properly.

Huzzah !!! I can now actually use the Z do some serious work.

Thanks for your help and suggestions on this matter.
