Illegal Instruction (firefox/thunderbird)
« on: January 07, 2006, 10:33:30 am »
newbie warning.

C3100 with 1.1.0beta1
from XQt experimental feed: thunderbird & firefox

i was hoping to show of my new 3100 at work next monday, but all the interesting apps seem to fail. gimp, thunderbird, firefox. the last two fail with an illegal instruction while trying to execute "$PROG" $(1+"$@"} in mozilla startup scripts in /usr/lib/...

the XQt feed should be suitable for my Z, yes?

Thanks,
Bart

If u are running pdaxrom install firefox/thunderbird form the actual cXX00 feeds/ cXX0 feeds, not from the X/Qt feeds.

look under zaurus c3100 for the feed links:

Thanks. Phew ... those work. I have 2 C3100s. The original Sharp ROM couldn't impress my colleguas with all that Japanese unreadable text. Maybe I will flash the other with the Cacko ROM just as a comparison.

Now I have to start looking for the options for encrypted filesystems. I've seen one thread, but no results yet. Looking for one with a token in the SD card slot. Maybe in combination with FUSE.

Latest FUSE doesn't compile with the kernel used in pdaxrom.
you need a newer kernel for this (ie 2.6).

The other solution I found loop-aes requires recompiling the kernel, and some other low level utilities.

I have once compiled what was required once for the 860, but it never tried it....

I used cryptoloop before (kernel >= 2.4.22), now I'm using dm-crypt on my (fedora) laptop. But as you know it requires a >=2.6.4 kernel. The OpenZaurus project has a (experimental) 2.6 kernel for the C1000/C3100. Maybe that is the way to go. Personally I don't like the EncFS/FUSE solution because it shows filenames/sizes in plain. I would prefer the encrypted device solution (for the hd). But I can only guess about the performance impact on a Z. And what to do with the internal flash/ram?
