Some Questions
« on: January 21, 2006, 01:32:30 pm »
I find pdaXrom really great.

However I can't seem to be able to find samba anywhere for download (it's not on any of the feeds AFAIK). Cacko's ROM has Samba enabled and I could browse the Z's folders through my XP box but with pdaXrom I can't do that. Any ideas?

Also, which mplayer frontend is the best?

Indeed it's there. Me = so stupid...

Any reccomendations for mplayer frontends? Also, I am trying to play a 165kbps 540x264 divx file that plays really choppy. I read on a thread here that with Cacko's mplayer you can play 640x480 500kbps videos without problems. Am i doing something wrong?

I am using the vo -bvdd switch.

Also, I installed samba and both smbd and nmbd are loaded on startup. However, when i try to browse my z through XP (start-> run -> \\192.168.0.3) it asks for a username and password and none seem to work ( I currently work on the z as root).

Srono you were right, after I set smbpasswd I can browse the directories fine. Thanks a lot!

On with my next question:

On my C3100 I hadn't bothered with USB connectivity (I use wifi). However, I wish to transfer the contents of /dev/hda3 to my PC (i'm a backup freak) so I can repartition my microdrive. WiFi is too slow for that.

So I connected my z to my pc, it was recognized as an SL-C1000, anyway, I installed the NDIS drivers from the CD but I can't establish a network connection neither can I set the Z so that it appears as a USB storage device in XP. Any ideas?

Some Questions
« Reply #6 on: January 21, 2006, 04:06:16 pm »
Ok, I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and now USB networking works... Weird.

I was thinking of repartioning /dev/hda (the microdrive) like this:

/dev/hda1 and 2 stay as they are

/dev/hda3 256mb swap partition
/dev/hda4 ext2 partition
/dev/hda5 fat partition

However, from what I understand changing the fstab file doesn't do anything... What should I do in order to have the partitions described above mounted on startup?

Thanks guys for your patience, I'm trying to learn!

I went ahead and repartitioned /dev/hda. Everything went smoothly and both /dev/hda2 and /dev/hda3 get automounted on startup. I just have to "swapon /dev/hda1" manually.

I installed some packages to /dev/hda2 (ext2 filesystem) but they fail to link correctly, they don't have icons in matchbox and when i try to run them from the shell I get errors about files not found. Apps like Firefox, Minimo, mplayer etc.

It seems that despite selecting /mnt/ide2 in package manager or when installing from shell, ipkg-link creates links to /mnt/card. :-( Is there any way to fix this?

Thanks in advance

According to your previous post /dev/hda3 is your swap? Anyway with the default settings of "/etc/pcmcia/ide.opts", the first 3 partitions should be mounted automatically. And you'll have to turn on swap "manually".

Check that /etc/ipkg.conf contains the correct locations and mount points for your "external storage".

Something has gone wrong, and my /dev/hda3 partition (Windows FAT32) stopped automounting on startup. I remember before that I had reformatted my /dev/hda3 through my XP box and USB...
