Cross-pollinate Sd Drivers For > 1gb?
« on: February 15, 2006, 11:05:59 pm »
- In another thread, Meanie mentioned that the clever guys doing pdaXrom had developed an SD driver that allows cards larger than a GB to work.  Others in that thread mentioned a site in Japan that sells an SD WiFi card that includes a similar driver, but they only work on a cXXX.  Since I have a C1000, I'm outta luck on the Japanese driver.
- Meanie suggested if I asked Real Nice ™, I might prevail upon the good pdaXrom developers to cross-compile their SD driver.  I personally think that would be the Cat's Meow ™, but feel pdaXrom is where their efforts are best placed, and I shouldn't even consider taking their well-spent time away from that.
- But it did occur to me that perhaps I could port just the SD driver?  Likely not possible, pdaXrom uses a newer kernel, and that's liable to cause issues porting to an older one.  But if it is possible, I'd like to give it a go.  If not ... (shrug) ... didn't hurt to ask!  (wide grin)
- If it's not possible, or the good pdaXrom guys don't want to share their SD code (which is certainly understandable), then I'd like to ask where they got the info used to get their SD driver working?  Knowing it's possible is certainly a Good Thing ™, but a clue, now that's something else entirely.  (snicker)
- Thanks for your time...

I thought pdaXrom used the same kernel versions as the Sharp ROMs?

Or do you mean the fact that the cxxxx machines all have a slightly later kernel version than the c7x0 machines?

I'd be interested to hear more about this new sd driver.

What do you mean under "port"? pdaXrom uses the same kernel as cacko's. The driver they are testing now should compile fine for 2.4 kernel. I don't think there should be any problems with getting the source code - just ask Sashz nicely. But most probably you will need to compile it yourself,

- Awesome!  I like mistakes that make things simpler.  (snicker)  I thought I read somewhere that pdaXrom used kernel 2.6.x.  (shrug)  Glad I'm wrong!
- Compiling myself is fine.  I have a box almost set up solely for that purpose, the one I'm typing on right now, matter of fact.  Finally got FC4 to play nicely with the other systems on the LAN, so I'm able to copy stuff over.  A little configuration and I'll be all set up.  Or so the theory goes.
- I'll ping Sashz and see what happens.  Thanks for setting me straight...

IIRC Sashz work on getting 2.4.20 working on all clamshell Zaurus models with his version of Montavista SD/MMC subsystem. I tested this sd/mmc support with my cards about one month ago and it was working nice - there was many work to do with it anyway (for example support for ejecting card without reloading modules).

2.6 kernel is used by OpenZaurus - 3.5.4 will have 2.6.14-rc1 for c7x0 models and with 3.5.4.1 we plan to give 2.6.15 for c7x0 and cxx00 models (with working ALSA and kexec (which allow to load and switch to any - even 2.4 kernel)). As long as I know no other Zaurus distro use 2.6 on Zauruses.
