I believe we need moderators, for various reasons, spam, cleanup of duplicate threads, moving of threads in wrong forums(sections) etc...

So what do you think...?

I agree, and am willing to volunteer. The sudden increase in spam over the last couple of weeks is annoying.

We have moderators. But it doesn't mean that they are on all the time to clean up the threads.

I noticed your reply on one of the other threads and agree we are starting to get a tedious amount of spam coming through so it would be nice to have a validation on subscription and/or a quarantine on posts with certain keywords so that the moderator can approve it or decline the posting and obviously blacklist the account/ip address that is making such postings.

I think the spammers have a bot that is signing up automatically, they only seem to post one offs and thats it (unless someone is deleting the account of course )... Some bitmap obscure validation code combined with an email activation would be great as a start.

Which forum do you think we need moderators in?  I do get reports daily and by the time I get to them, 9 times out of 10 they've already been taken care of.

If you can give me a specific forum though, I'll watch out for it and see if we really do need anymore.

Interesting as I've almost never seen any spam. I use the View new posts function through-out my working day (I'm on GMT).

just figuring you would need a little help, from someone who has some time to spare, just for cleanup and whatnot, I would be thinking of a "GLOBAL" moderator, if you see spam kill it, double postings, posting in wrong forums etc...maybe help with a new member validation system

That's called an Admin, and we're too picky about them to add another

We have a few admins (global rights):  me, dz, foxdie, taim, tapjpa.  As dz mentioned, we won't be adding people to this group unless I know that they are a solid member of the community, etc.

We have several moderators (rights to specific forums).  If people want to be added as a moderator to one or more forums, please just send me a PM.  If I don't know you already, I'll look at your history on the forums.

With regards to the spam we get... by the time I get on the forum to check the spam it's usually in the trash can already.  From there and admin either suspends or deletes the member and put their member name and IP address in the ban list.

The forum already has email validation in place (you receive an email and have to follow the link to become active and be able to post).  I don't see the benefit of having admins approve new members as we won't know if they are spammers until they actually post.

I will look into the keyword filter and quarantine option... I think that's a great idea.

Thanks for the feedback.
