This looks promising!

"This is one of the prime motivators for me to do Gnash. Not just because having a free plugin would be cool, but to have the standalone player work on my Zaurus, or other small footprint devices."

This part might be a problem, although it is possible to run software OpenGL, from my experience that is slow.
