Endless Games With Amiga Emulator?
« on: March 11, 2006, 07:31:09 am »
i wonder if this could be a solution for "endless" games on zaurus. tons of games legally available for free WITHOUT having to BUILD each SINGLE one!

but: will zaurus (in my case c3100) be fast enough? has anyone already tried?

regards seb

There is a uae around.  Haven't heard of it working for a while, though.

I agree, it would be an excellent addition.

Now that would make an interesting poll... how many forum members had an amiga? then look at members over 30......

I had a 500 and a 3000.  I know at least one other amigite on here.....  the z seems to have a similar appeal.

unfortunately, uae segfaults on my 3100 (beta1)  is there a new package? or some obvious thing I should know?

I experimented with the amiga emulator on both pdaxrom and xqt. runs pretty well...has trouble with frontier hehe...*little too slow but the main problem is the  cursor calibration that makes using the mouse almost impossible ......any solutions?

hm let's see.. quite a lot of things seem to work, problems with cursor calibration, limited speed..

-how severe is the speed problem?
--actionscrollers (stuff like deluxe galaga or silkworm)?
  --jumpnruns?
  --action adventures?
  --normal adventures?
--simulations (like ports of call, not like flight simulators or stuff)?

-can that cursor calibration thing be solved?

@ads: could you describe the observed problem in detail, please?

-and: does it have to be solved? i mean, there are gamepads.. many games don't require a mouse..

-who volunteers for building an ipk?

btw, yes, over thirty, no, not an amiga owner, but yes, i used to have a 64, got it on christmas '83, price was 635,- DM at that time plus 115,- DM for the tape recorder (datasette)..   a hell of a lot of money at that time..

The calibration problem is a general SDL problem - i think Sash is looking into it ASAP. But at the moment he is quite busy because of moving.

@laze: how severe do you estimate the speed issue?

Had an A1000 and an A300T-040 that I used daily as recently until about 6-7 years ago.
Never tried messing with UAE, though, on the Z or otherwise. (Probably because I kept
the real thing for so long. :>) Over 30? Yup, that, too (I also had a Commodor SuperPET
back in the day....)

Runs okay with most old A500 games - demos and others that uses the special chips very hard is often slow - but with some frameskipping most things runs okay.

forgot to mention starting with  a commodore 16k and then a c64.

amn ipk and an adjusted sdl would be pretty cool.  I'd love to fire up midwinter on my z

I used to have an Amiga B2000 (that's the one which comes with a "Bridgeboard" - essentially a "PC" on an expansion card - thus allowing you to run PC apps (mainly MS-DOS stuff in those days) at full speed (of 4.77MHz!)).

About 10 years ago the original Amiga power supply died and since Commodore had also died it was tough getting a replacement. So I followed some instructions in a newsgroup and modified a standard "PC" psu, but sadly when I connected it all up and switched it on there was a flash of light, a bang, and a puff of smoke from the hard disk(!) and that was the end of my Amiga
