Usb Mouse Question
« on: March 12, 2006, 10:49:17 am »
Sorry if this has already been answered but I can't find one ...

I have a microsoft usb wireless mouse (usb dongle)...
starting X with -mouse /dev/input/mouse0 leaves me with a pointer that will only
go up and down when moving mouse left and right. There is no horizontal action
(you know what I mean  - anyone come across this before or able to suggest a
fix ? Everything appears fine looking through dmesg etc ???
I have confirmed mouse works on laptop etc and a wired usb mouse works fine on
the zaurus ?

I wonder if your wireless dongle is trying to take more power from the USB port than your Z is willing to provide.  As I understand it, the Z provides USB signals, but doesn't provide power to USB devices.

My USB wireless mouse works fine. It draws less current from the port than a conventional wireless optical mouse.

I have just soldered (or rather my buddy did) mini B host cable and plugged in little transparent acrylic usb mouse I bought at weirstuff. It works just fine. I didnt have to change anything in configuration. It just works, except for scrollwheel.

How did you find that out?

[Did the packaging say?  Is there a command line tool that tells you about power drain?  Did you charge up your Z and time the discharge?  Surely you didn't use a hacked USB power cable with a multimeter in the middle?  Do tell!]

I connected an ammeter in series with the power supply and measured it with and without the mouses.

I posted the results on here a few weeks ago.
