Hmmm...Okay. Shouldn't be any hardware differences...

I've got the stuff on the CF card. I'll flash once I get to work and report back.

BTW, has anyone experienced the issue I mentioned last week about bash hanging after the first command, either remotely (usb networking) or locally (in the Konsole, which requires bash to run)? Basically I originally installed bash, then set root's shell to it. It would execute one command then never return the prompt...Control-C didn't work, all I could do was close the session. When I started having other problems, I reflashed. This time I did _not_ change root's shell, but I did install it (to make the konsole work). Sessions where I remote in via the usbnet work fine, but konsole sessions give me the same problem with the one-command-no-return-prompt.

Thanks for all your work, Coredump.

Just got round to installing this one and was looking forward to it but now I can't install packages or access interweb through usb.

Settings are

IP 192.168.0.100
subnet 255.255.255.0
First DNS 192.168.1.1
Second DNS 192.168.1.100

These settings have always worked for me in the past and reflashing to previous Hentges RC still works on these settings still works today.

No problems flashing but interweb so therefore packages won't connect.
I want to be current and stay with current RC so any suggestions/hints/rtfm's gratefully recieved.

have installed zImage collie 64/0 correctly renamed, initrd.bin and cardfs - error message from ipkg in Konsole is Host name look up failure.

Thanks as always for the help.

Just installed RC5 - thanks as always CoreDump - we are not worthy.

Just in case anybody suffers the same problem I had with previous candidate and web access I solved it by removing the dns  addresses from both  the network settings on Z and the tcp/ip settings on my shared connection.

I don't know what changed between the the two candidates and I probably wouldn't understand if somebody ex[lained it to me but I am now happily downloading and installing applications.

I'm a happy kitty.

Thanks

I flashed with rc5, after checking the md5sums of all of the files on the CF card.

I'm still having the problem with suspend. I did a suspend right after flashing and it locked up.

I'm also still having problems with bash as listed above.

Code: [Select]
root@collie:~/pkglists# ls -l
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root        10964 Feb  8 16:06 chaffee-pkglist-20050208

It executed the command, then didn't give me a prompt back. The only way to get back to a prompt is to kill the process and log back in. I logged in in another window from my laptop, and it showed bash using 98+% of the CPU. It took a kill -9 to get rid of it.

Has anyone used bash under 3.5.4.1?

Thanks,

I will have a look. I remember linking /bin/sh to /bin/bash a few month back on an e17 image to work around an entranced problem. Didn't notice anything too strange but this was on Akita.

As expected bash works fine on Akita.
I installed bash to / and launched it manually with /bin/bash, after that I even changed roots shell in /e/passwd to bash and re-logged. No problems so far. Tomorrow I'll have a look at collie.

well ive got it on with loop image on sd and cardfs installed in that,

then you choose where you want to install cardfs, i chose "/" rather than cf or sd, as i ahd allready installed tarball loop image and mounted/booted it immediately after flashing .

one fix i had to make was add the directory "e" into "/usr/lib/ipkg/lists" for the e/collie server/feed list, othereise it would give an error during update mentioning it couldnt rename (move) the downloaded list to it's destination, (as the directory didnt exist)

so far the only lockup ive been able to get was while trying to issue the "logout" command from the "start menu" ...  but even then while it was locked up, i could suspend/resume with the "cancel" "hard-key", though in the end had to hard-reset-switch to break the lock...

over all im muchly impressed by the new release, you even get AQPkg by default, and it genrally seems faster and more stable...

congratulations

-counted my chickens too quick just got full-lock while holding cancel to suspend, leaving no choice but to hard-switch-reset after waiting to no avail...

For the time beeing you should suspend via opies or GPEs menu, not the Cancel button.

Also I've tested bash on Colle, and yes it is broken and hangs after the first command.

Great. I was beginning to think that I was the only one to whom this was happening. I'm not going to ask if you have a date of repair, Coredump, I'm just glad I'm not imagining the problem.

Perhaps I am missing something here (and I am not, uhem!, inexperienced) but there does seem to be a fundamental conflict between loading both an altboot onto sd (filesystem NOT loop mount) and the cardfs apps...I have tried every possible ordering and each seems to want to destroy the files of the other (saying 'no' on the delete question just ends up as a noop w/ no install)...

And on at least half my installs today I have had to do the altboot install from the tarball, boot into the original flash install and then cd into the /media/card/etc/rc5.d directory and blow away S20checksd to get the thing to even boot into a gpe environment on a sd boot...checking the boot filesystem does seem to cause some problems (either trying to kill a process that does not exist or shell errors on input into some of the test conditions in /etc/init.d/rc)

While I am sure that I can construct a nice gpe environment all by myself having the package of apps in the cardfs package as a headstart is rather nice...

Suggestions????
I'll take a good plan today rather than a perfect plan some tomorrow....

Oops!
The cardfs installer *should* offer "/" as destination (which would be the rootfs on SD in your case).

I'm afraid but testing root-on-SD is a little bit difficult for me currently. I do know that root-on-NFS / CF works just fine with gpe and opie.

I'll see what I can do.

Thanx Coredump -- my goof on first part, guess my brain at 2am was not thinking that root had already pivoted so / should be the install target for cardfs and NOT /media/card....

Did just have to do part 2 again though -- boot and select 8, install the tarball as filesystem, boot off the #3 / SD option and fail on rc script errors, reboot (selection 1) on flash install, cd to /media/card/etc/rc5.d to blow away S20checksd, reboot again on #3 for SD card, and then finally install the cardfs apps (correctly into / this time)...

Now I can at least move on to customization and more apps installs...
I'll take a good plan today rather than a perfect plan some tomorrow....

Yes, I was a wimp. I went back to Hentges 3.5.4rc until some of the issues are fixed. I needed full functionality of the Z in the meantime.

I was wondering if I could include some of the 3.5.4.1 feeds and would they work on 3.5.4rc?

Thanks,

Yes they should work just fine. And they should be configured in the image alread.
