Quetoo
« on: April 10, 2007, 05:04:42 pm »
Hello, I found interesting link:
http://jdolan.dyndns.org/trac/wiki/Quetoo

Quetoo is a Quake2-compatible game engine for GNU/Linux and FreeBSD. It's focus is simplicity, security, stability, and speed. It contains critical security updates for both clients and servers, bandwidth saving network protocol enhancements, an improved console, and some major speed increases. Quetoo is up to 140% faster than stock Quake2.
....

It runs incredibly well on nokia N800:

Looks very interesting - anyone able to give it a go?
Gorgeous C860, 256 Sandisk SD, 1Gig Pretec 40x CF, PDAIR leather case & the really cool retractable iPDA USB sync/charge cable. Powered by PDAXROM BETA 1.

My wish - to have a Command & Conquer style game on my Z! (FREECNC!!!) Simcity 2000 would also be great.

I'll give it a shot on pdaXrom (for 2.6-based releases).

It's built, but not tested, and in the new packages thread.

What data would you use to play? Are there any good total conversion mods to use/free data?

That's probably a REALLY dumb question.

And it's only the Quake engines that got open-sourced?

Yes, you need q2 data file to play. Shareware data is floating on the Internet, but it is not so easy fo find by qick googling.
I tried compiled quetoo on pdaXii3, but getting "X11 is not confirured for OpenGL" error. I have also installed mesa3d, glxgears demo is working fine.
That is really pitty, q2 is almost playable with standard q2 engine.
