Pdaxrom 1.1.0beta 4 And New Bootloader
« Reply #75 on: May 11, 2006, 10:56:13 pm »
Is there a way to show the current clock speed that the cpu acceleration is setting?

I ask because I ran my latest codebase for ZPSX on beta 4, and it runs much slower now. It's actually slower than the GP2X version at 250MHz now.

I'm using the SDL 1.2.9_arm5vtel IPK from older beta's. It supports bvdd.

I'm hoping the speed issue is on my end, as I imagine Sash has his hands full.

Tested on: Sharp Z C1000 under Beta 4 using SDL 1.2.9 under X Windows.

This version of SDL screws up running under command prompt after INIT. It seems it's not rotating the Linux framebuffer as needed by bvdd.

Maybe I need a different IPK?

Great work so far Sash!

I was thinking about comparisons as well.
on my 3100 beta 3 default 400mhz clock i get 17 frames per second in glx gears.

glx gears is hardly a definitive benchmark, but a comparison might tell us something.

what are the beta4 guys getting?  what are other beta 1,2,3 users getting? a few posts on this would be interesting....and keep us busy while sashz works feverishly on fixes

I've noticed that if you click on the clock you get a weird pop up box saying

Quote
xmessage

please define some command

I've noticed that the suspend/resume does it's old trick of pressing suspend in the "start" menu and then later when you press the on button, the screen flashes up for an instant and goes black again.

I too can see a faint shadowing above the panel, but only visible to me on the background, not on running apps.

I'm almost loathe to say this, but things feel slower to open and close and react, on the few apps I've tested. I hope that's just me.

I also can't get the get the system to halt or reboot from the command line. The former results in a "the system is powered off" message. The only way to then turn it off is to remove the power cable and battery. The latter just hangs.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=126641\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I think I can tell you why everything feels so slow:

Quote
Also is it just me or are others finding that single taps on the scroll bars cause it run away as if it was being held down?
... that is the reason, if you tap on the screen it seems that the button remains stuck, so you have to press a second time so that the button releases and after that the action will be performed. This is quite important to fix because the Zaurus is not really good controllable right now.

Anyway I find the speed to be really good, but had no time for testing for example quake or video playback.

Edit: Overall speed is just great!

Edit#2: Suspend doesnt work anymore (I didnt change anything though)... if i press the ON Button the Zaurus supends and reactivates again so its always on. Anyway suspend is still possible through the menu.

Looks like in next days Sash will work on fixing things fixed in OE/OZ.

All clamshells has ALSA sound under 2.6.16 and mixer on Cxx00 has very big amount of options - in OZ we provide sane defaults so 'it just works'.

Overall experience with working 2.6 after using 2.4 will be that it is faster - Preempt is done very nice in 2.6.

Backlight control was changed in 2.6 totally - on c7x0 we have 63 levels (dont know how on Cxx00 - I do not have such). Also LED support is changed.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=126672\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

why don't you show everyone how great the OZ team is and provide Sash with your patches to fix those problems so he can spend time on doing other things? support the Zaurus community and work together and help each other out instead of fighting alll the time.

if we all cooperate, then the Zaurus will be more fun and productive for us all.

That comes across as a very smarmy comment. I hope it was actually you pointing out that issues have been fixed and that if Sash wants, you'll tell him how to fix them. It would be nice to think that was an offer of assistance that got lost in translation, not the sound of someone gloating.

There's nothing wrong with giving credit where credit's due. I'm just hoping that the real problem a lot of people have with Hrw's posts is that english isn't his first language and he doesn't realise how rude they come across in translation. Here's hoping.

During last time I work with Sash (discussions about u-boot, 2.6 kernel patches) outside of that forum. My post had to show that some things are resolved in OZ so they can be taken from it by Sash or experienced users and put into pdaX.

I know that my English is not perfect (it is too technical - lack communication parts). But does anyone have to shout when I write something in pdaX part of forum?

Currently I work on OpenZaurus 3.5.4.1 release (with help few few OE/OZ devels) and all our work is available for anyone so you people can also look into it and help Sash create distro.

It's genuinely good to see the teams working together.  I must admit I read Hrw's post as a bit condescending but then realised it was not meant to be: english is an imprecise language all to often.  If collaboration between OZ/PDAXROM happens like it already is doing, new releases should be easier and quality better.
Thanks to both teams for their work, and thanks to Sashz (and all!) for pdaxrom: it suits my needs best.

The beta seems less of a progression of the last betas, but more of an evolution of pdaXrom as a whole, with a new kernel and some new innards etc.

Dare I ask, what does the future hold? It's looking very interesting.

Just in time I realized that this beta is not for me. Well, at least I have a decent backup now  So my question is when a C7x0 will be available. It would mean that a lot more people will be able to pinpoint all those minor problems, and hopefully help to fix a few things here and there.
