IIRC, you can change this behaviour with "alsamixer": Disable the mono speaker or a similar option to mute the speaker but not the headphone socket. Changing this was done automatically by the last kernel.
I'll confirm this later.

I seem to be getting stuck on the emergency boot stage,  all I get is the below without the automatic rebooting, etc.

(ie.)

Processing /etc/profile... Done
-sh.3.00#

I've tried with SD & CF cards.   One weird thing is my cards arent readable. They are mounted fine but when I do "ls" on them it just freezes?

I've formatted them correctly with FAT16 with windows & even the HP usb storage formatting tool.

I ran into the same problem.  I've used the same compact flash card even since I had my zaurus to do flashing.  I have never had any problems flashing roms with it, but for beta4, my compact flash card only worked for flashing the u-boot.  When I tried to flash the kernel with it the emergency boot would not recognize it, even when trying to mount it manually.  What I had to do was use my multimedia card to flash the kernel since the emergency boot was able to detect that automatically.  This is weird since I have never been able to do any successful flashing with my multimedia card before.

I had the same exact thing happen wiht my Kodak 128mb CF... I've never had a lot of sucess with that card in any device... but my reliable Iomega(IBM) 340mb MD works like a charm everytime on any device...

I have the same install issue, and the same screen.
First, there is rootfs.img kernel.img and autoboot.sh in my CF card. After above screen show, I insert my SD card, and copy the file from CF to SD under command line, then eject CF and reinstall beta4 from SD. It is successful
And I think the default boot location of autoboot.sh is SD, because I see "LOC=$1"

If you read some of the earlier posts in the thread I had this problem and someone kindly told me how to fix it :-)

just read the title (for extreme testers only)... there are a lot of changes in beta4 and so there is still a lot to fix. Until now its far from stable... or at least the Zaurus is working rock-stable but beta4 is still somehow useless because a lot of things do not work as they should or do not work at all.
but there are coming more and more patches and so beta4 gets better and better. And one thing to say already: kernel 2.6 boosts the speed of the Zaurus which is quite nice.
I go with beta4 now but if you have important work to do with your zaurus you should stick with older versions.

For me the Zaurus is working as I need it but the only thing which really needs to be fixed as soon as possible is the sound... using the Z as mp3 player with beta4 is not recommended because the sound is poor and not loud enough and the speaker works at the same time as the headphones do. In xmms I managed once to get just the headphones (in ALSA plugin I set "mono" I think) but then it no longer worked anymore.

btw. I tested the CE-RH2 (or better: my Creative Remote which is modded and now works as a CE-RH2) but it doesn't work with beta4.
I tried "xev" but it recognizes only if I lock and unlock the remote... the other buttons dont get recognized.

Can apps be compiled from source in beta4 yet?
ie. is there a zgcc for beta4?
if not, why not?

yes, i see the "extreme tester", but the older version are tag "beta" so it's quite difficult to know which version is the most stable ... and i'm very impatient to have this new version !!!

this version is faster than OZ ???

To be honest I cannot compare it to OZ and it is not so easy I think... but what I can say is that it is faster than older versions.

I do not exactly know which beta is the most stable but as beta1 was out it was called the first stable pdaxrom release if I remeber correctly.
Better ask someone of the pdaXrom team for this...
