Is SL 6000 still supported by pdaxrom?
I didn't see any update since beta1...

afaik they are trying to get the new system coherent and polished before the move it to all z platforms.  beta1 is only a few months old still (and what I have on my 6000).  I wouldn't sweat it.

Hi,
I think I am going for pdaXrom with this SL-C1000.

I tried step
Quote
11) Green LED must light on for ~20 sec.
this seemed to work. It might have been less than 20s, however.

But I could not manage to boot the emergeny system. The screen would never turn on.
Quote
Bootup emergency system
1) Insert SD or CF card with pdaXrom
2) Press and hold ON button and plug power cable
3) Wait for 10 sec and leave ON button

I had to do a NAND restore to see the thing alive again.

Obviously I am missing some detail. Maybe some kind soul could point me the way.

Problem solved:
After I had gunzip'ped pdaXrom-1.1.0beta4-Kathrin-u-boot-akita-current.zip I found emergenc.img differed from the file Winzip had extracted.
BTW the green and orange leds both turned on when flashing via the "C" and "D" keys. The leds were lit not for 20s but only for about 10s.
The Z did not accept a  64 MB and 128 MB CF card, only a 1GB SD card.

Resetting: Taking the battery out and unplugging the power supply is one way. One can just push the reset button beside the battery compartment. It was meant for that.
I really appreciate to have a 2.6.16 kernel on this tiny machine. Still the emergency system only. But let's call it a day.
Many thanks to EVERYONE who contributes. I did spend a couple of bucks yesterday donating.

After installing beta4, I try NAND backup to a CF (FAT16) and succeed. But when I try to restore the same image, NAND restore failed with message 'format error'. Any idea?

I have no problem restoring previous backup like beta1 one.

EDIT: tried SD and failed also.

Does beta4 support larger than 1 gig sd cards?  I'd like to try an install to a large sd, If it does

Well, the fourth beta is great but has a few anoying bugs:

1. disabling of speaker sound after inserting headphones must be done manualy. It would be great to have it automated as in Xrom <beta4, cacko...
2. sound from speaker is weak and distorted! It's not hardware malfunction as i've reflashed to cacko and the speaker sound there is ok.
3. Usbfunction doesn't work so we can't use Z's as usb mass storage devices. The problem in the script is that it checks an nonexistant file for device model info. It's easy to fix that. But after that it accesses /etc/usbcontrol which doesn't exist in beta4.
4. The short shadowy bar over fbpanel is extremly irritating!

Regardless of this, thanks to Sash and everyone else who contributed to making an extremely powerful 2.6 kerneled zaurus system!

Ok..everything installed just fine.

1st quesion--which kernel is current?  The one in the curent zip , or the updated one listed with voLtage control?

2nd queston  Hostap-driver install fails with the error "/etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia  no such file or directory"  What is the fix for this?  I use an ambicom wireless card, and I'''m pretty dependant on hostap.

Comment:  Big sd cards, like my 4 gig from zipzoomfly seem to work perfectly on Beta4 I'd have tried it sooner if omeone had said so.

er... I'm trying a nand restore from the trisoft site.  Everything seems to be ok... it says ok --meaning it's done.  when I reboot I get nothing. just a black screen and a charging light.

ideas??

EDIT: Once again, some fiddling and a few power cycles and it is working fine.

1- For now ...
2- go to shell and run alsamixer ... look for "right XXXX" and "left XXXX" controls .... put all in max.... speaker is nice now...
3- hum.... time for try it here!
4- Yea.... but in my Z... the bad is a huge dark dot in center of screen ... dont have it in beta 3

Hey, remember beta4 ... is a alfa4 .... new "kernel" === "many bugs"

I tried with my new C1000 with the boot loader and every reboots can ONLY go to D+M mode without pressing any D+M combination.... (therefore any holding ON button is in vain...)

is there any idea to that?

I suspect if the bootloader was not installed properly. If it is installed properly then the Z should boot into the shell and not DM mode. Maybe try to flash with another card would work.

I think you might have turned on the flag in your Diag Mode Menu.... I dont remember which menu it is under but there is a ON/OFF switch in there that you can flag it is auto boot in DM mode until that flag is turned off...

Ok, I've been playing around with the beta.  It think the obvious stuff has been reported.

However, when I went to fix the hideous sound issue with xmms, by running alsaconfig, I got:
Quote
Error opening terminal: rxvt.
I ran xterm -e alsacong .. but I got:
Quote
xterm:  unable to open font "-misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed--13-120-75-75-60-iso10646", trying "fixed"....
That font is horrific, and alsaconf is not displayed correctly.  It was very annoying to try to read through the garbage to get sound working well.  I don't know if sound _is_ working properly, as there seem to be lots of options which I'm not familiar with.  =)

I realise that the new kernel fixes the sound issue.. but perhaps this xterm issue remains?
