Hello friends

I have sl c 1000, installed pdaxrom 1-1-beta-1 and installed gnumeric (ipkg files), but it do not work, it says 'libgoffice-1.5.0.1 archive not found...
Later I installed other programs (ipks files) but do not work like firefox, mplayer...
installed xarchiver.ipk file and work but without icom, i need to write in term 'xarchiver'.
I found later gnumeric, xarchiver and a lot of files in tar.gz or tar.bz2 type. But I do not now how to use this.
But i found i page that explain it for a linux pc, but this code do not works in zaurus pdaxrom:

https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Pdaxro...oss_Compilation

Even I installed Rox in ipk file.
When I installed pdaxrom 1-1-beta-3, I was unable to install gnumeric, rox, archiver, ferefox,....
I do not understand why this is as difficult that i an near to be ill.
Why I can not install gnumeric, and othes , if I installed it do not work...

I wish to learn from anyone that show me how to made it work (gnumeric, firefox,...) and I need to learn how to use tar and tar.gz and tar.bz2, I only descompress these archives, but I do not know how to use those.

How to use this tar??
I am waitting for your help.
Any edea whot to use and install.

Can you wait for another 6 hours ?
I'll be home then, get online and give you all the answers you need.

Are you using an internet connection to install the ipks ?
Which feeds are you using ?

To install the things you talk about, it just takes two feeds (the main beta3-feed which is  in the same place as where you got the rom image, the beta3-feed for CXX0 which is in the contributed part of the site) I don't have direct links right now, but I'll check this evening.

xarchiver doesn't have an icon in the ipk right now, my mistake, sorry.

forget the "configure, make, make install" thing for now, your memory will be full before you know, and it won't work without the native compiler installed. First things first.

HP-95LX -> HP Jornada 680 -> SL-C860 -> SL-C3100 -> Fuji u810 -> SL-C1000 -> HTC uni -> SL-C860 -> SL-C760.

Hello Chero
Thanks for your insterest.
I tell you where i downloaded this files:

First of all I downloaded roms 1-1-beta 1 and 1-1-beta-3 from:

[a href=\"http://mail.pdaxrom.org/download/1.1.0beta1/Zaurus-C1000-C3100/]http://mail.pdaxrom.org/download/1.1.0beta...us-C1000-C3100/
http://mail.pdaxrom.org/download/1.1.0beta4/Zaurus-Cxx00/

and I downloaded feeds from:
http://mail.pdaxrom.org/download/1.1.0beta4/Zaurus-Cxx00/
and placed it in a directory with the mane of 'mnt/card/feed-1-1-4'

I downloaded feeds from:
http://mail.pdaxrom.org/download/1.1.0beta...us-C1000-C3100/

The feeds and placed it in a directory with the mane of 'mnt/card/feed1-1-1'

Latter I downloaded gnumeric and goffice from:
http://mail.pdaxrom.org/download/1.1.0beta3/src/
and placed it in 'mnt/card/SRC'
And Xarchiver from:
your page, downloading: xarchiver_0.3.1_armv5tel.ipk
placed it in 'mnt/card/'
sd is a 1 gb fat 32 formatted
I changed ipkg config  to use as imput :
src cacko-unstable /mnt/card/feed-1-1-4
latter changed it to '/mnt/card/Packages' because when I try 'ipkg update says package directory do not exist, and remane dir /mnt/card/feed-1-1-4 to /mnt/card/Package.
Now accep Package as an adecuated directory but is happening all that I told you before.
I will wait you help.

(I'm in between meetings)

Main page to find beta3-image:
http://mail.pdaxrom.org/node/42

Main beta3-feed:
http://mail.pdaxrom.org/download/1.1.0beta...rus-Cxx00/feed/

Beta3 feed for CXX0 (for additional packages) :
http://zaurus.spy.org/feeds/cacko/pdaXrom/1.1.0/beta3/feed/

Beta1 feed:
http://mail.pdaxrom.org/download/1.1.0beta...000-C3100/feed/

A few questions before we start :
- Is your C1000 connected to the internet when installing packages ? If yes, then there is no need to download (packages from) the feeds.

- If no, did you download the whole feeds, or just some files from the feeds ?

Back again :

What rom did you install ?
I read beta1, beta3 and beta4. I don't know about beta4, but as you seem new to pdaX, I suggest to use the more stable beta3.

some explanation :

Before you download all those feeds :
If you are running beta3, all you could need from the beta1-feed is "libiconv" to be able to run older packages, there is no need to download the full feed.
The same goes for the other feeds (but it's sometimes hard to figure out what you need, that's why a connection to the net is practical when installing stuff.

The thing you tried with the tar.gz - tar and tar.bz2 archives :
They contain the source code to create the apps; you do this by doing the "configure, make, make install" thing. When doing things this way, you install everything the developer included (docs, manual, ...) and apps are not stripped to make them smaller. You'll stuff your Z with things you don't need.
Wait until you become more experienced so you'll be able to create messy ipkgs, like I do. (or maybe I'm just being lazy)
It can take quite long for an app to compile on the Z, so installing apps that exist as ipkgs this way would be a waste of time.

There are a lot of apps and feeds around, so it's quite confusing when you start. I'll try to guide you a bit.

About the wifi : I don't know about usb-wifi, but what exactly happens ?

Hello Chero
I have downloaded 1-1-beta 3,
then I do not know how to install libiconv in zaurus. Last night I tried to copy libiconv.so to /root/lib/ and it crash, then I have to install rom again, and lost all I have done the last time.
Then I installed 1-1-beta 3.
And now I want to install:
Abiword, Gnumeric, firefox, mozilla, Etheral, Gaim IQC, Gimp, Kismet, Thunderbird, mplayer (to play movies, mp3..)
I remenber that I was able to install Abiword 2.4.4 in 1-1-beta1, and I think this will be the same.
I configured pkg.config:
'src unstable-cacko file:///mnt/card/Packages'

and choose root as a destinatión.
Explain me if I can install all of them in a cf 1 gb card, aand if I need to format for a 'fat' or 'ext' (before I formated cf with pc at 'fat' not 'fat 32', but it read and writer with a lower speed than in 'fat 32'.
weeks ago I tried to install gnumeric in 1-1-beta 3 and I was unable to mede it works.
explain wich archive I hato install in rom 1-1-beta3, and if I need to add any filles like livicon' or other...where I need to get those, how to install..
Then I have now beta3 (1-1-beta3), and have this directories:
feed-1-1-1 (with feeds from beta 1)
Packages (with feeds from beta 4)
all in a sd 1 gb.
Thanks for helpping me.
I confide with you

Forget about the tar files. I am sorry to be so direct but compiling those applications is way beyond your abilities. Just simply install the ipk files.
Look into the Packages file to see the dependencies [a href=\"http://mail.pdaxrom.org/download/1.1.0beta1/Zaurus-7x0-860/feed/Packages]http://mail.pdaxrom.org/download/1.1.0beta...0/feed/Packages
however, the Package Manager will resolve them for you so you just it.
this is how it looks like. use it.

Hello Meanie
I will try it.
When you said:
'if you configure your feed properly, then installing gnumeric will install all the other dependencies as well. '
could you explain me the way I can make all dependencies can be installed automatic. (this is different of compile archives, true?)
Thanks for your help

First you need all the dependent packages downloaded into your feed location (on card) or Internet access to the online feed. Then if the gnumeric package has been put together properly when you install it, all the dependent packages will be automatically installed too.

I suspect that this may not be the case, so if it doesn't work straight away, keep installing the other packages that Meanie listed above. The error messages may also give you some hints about what other packages you need if there are others. Keep installing things until it works!
